Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga

Post by gtmtnbiker »

I'm about 2/3 of the way through this game and what a treat it is. There's so much humor in this game...from the opening scene where Cackletta presented a gift to Princess Peach that knocks her out and steals her voice to fighting the boss Hermie (a hermit crab that looks like a christmas tree). What a hoot.

I love the huge variety of enemies & bosses in this game. It's simply astounding (to me) the amount of creativity that went into the game.

I have logged about 20 hours and it seems that I'll probably log another 10 before the game is finished.

Some of my favorite enemies are: Gritty Goomba (a goomba that looks like a wild native), Mecha Blooper (a blooper (squid like creature) that can shoot torpedoes), Boomerang Bro (a hammer bro that uses a boomerang).

The bosses can be tough until you figure out their attack patterns and weakness.

If you haven't played this game, I recommend picking this up, especially if you like RPGs in the style of Super Mario RPG - Seven Stars.

I started playing this last year, but got sidetracked and never finished it... Awesome game though! I really want to get around to finishing it so I can play the two DS titles as well.

I'm not that far into Super Star Saga yet, but I agree that they put a lot of love into this game.

If you liked this one though, I think you'll also like Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. I think it's made by the same developers (Intelligent Designs), and it has a lot of the stuff that makes Super Star Saga such a joy to play. The battle system is similar (attack/defense has that timing element, and you get first strike depending on how you approach the enemy), and they still get a lot of mileage out of redesigns of old familiar Mario enemies.

According to the wiki, Superstar Saga was developed by Alpha Dream. I played TTYD and Paper Mario 64 and found both games to be very good. I think I liked the battle system for Superstar Saga a bit better.

Ah, I stand corrected. Should have fact-checked.

I'm stuck on the last boss right now. It's so long and hard.

I haven't played it much for awhile (was doing other games) but just picked it up again the past week. I'm in Bowser's castle. I was stuck for awhile trying to battle Cackletta who would hide inside some saucer. Boy, that one was tough.

Now I'm inside Bowletta's stomach battling this purple thing. I think it's Fawful but not sure.

Is there no end to these bosses?

I hope I'm near the end. I want to move onto the next one in the series.
