Sega CD not reading discs

What I did was test my model 1 genesis and it works fine with the adapter. I was checking for voltage continuity and found I blew the fuse on the sega cd, so I soldered a temporary wire to bypass the fuse and it powers up again.

Here's a fix that my buddy Dr. Cirno cooked up for a permanent fuse bypass with a regular in-line fuse holder.

It's a great fix, but use slow burn fuses of the correct specs. as quick burns have a tendency to burn out every other boot up.

Having the unit alive again tested a few things. I turned the white gear by hand to move the lens away from the spindle and when I power on it moves back but stays there.

One motor moves the lens while the other one spins the discs, right? I tried checking voltage on this spots but there isn't any.



Is there any other spots I can check to narrow this down?

Now that I noticed the video... Yes, that's normal for the lense to return to the center of the disc once powered up. Without having opened mine yet, it looks like the top 2 circled spots are power for the lens tracking motor, so that would only have power when moving. So you should see power there when you turn it of after having cranked the lens out. Assuming the other spots are for the spindle motor, there should be some voltage going there starting just before the lens tries to focus and look for a disc.

Seems the KSS-150A is not really the replacement for a SOH-04T, but I'm sure I ordered that one because I read somewhere that it was the correct replacement and samsung lens was nowhere to be found online but it was so long ago. Reinstalled the old samsung lens and disc is spinning again.

After the sega cd checks the disc it goes to the music player and no disc message which was my original problem. Cleaning didn't help before and doesn't help now either. The speed at which the disc spins seems fine, if anyone differs let me know. If someone can confirm correct replacement and where to find it will appreciate it or if adjustment are possible.

I had a similar problem with a model 1 Sega CD. (At least I think its the Model 1... Its the one with the box fuse.)

I didnt even have to replace the fuse. It all boiled down to an issue with the contacts. Deep cleaned them with 70% rubbing alcohol and cutips and now its working like a charm. Running my backups and everything.
