SNES Horror Games

Post by HeavyMetalMe »

As some of you know, I'm a horror junkie. I'm currently in the middle of a game of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and I'm wondering if anyone here can inform me of any other "horror" themed games that I may not be aware of, that would be in the same vein. Another example of the type of game I'm looking for in regards to "horror" would be like SNES equivalents to Decap Attack or the Splatterhouse series.

Thanks!

There's a fan translated game called Demon of Laplace (Laplace no Ma). The patch is kind of hard to find because it's so glitchy. However, it comes with a readme to help you get past the bugs. The only major bugs are in the battles, but that aside, if you read the readme, you'll have one hell of a Horror RPG. :)

There is an English patch for Clock Tower. I downloaded the ROM and the patch years ago from CherryROMs before it went belly up. I'm not sure if I still have a copy of it, nor do I know where to download it at this time. I assume that the translation was based on the Playstation version, which I think is basically the same game.

Clock Tower for the SNES is a different game than the PS1 game. The Clock Tower for the PS1 was the sequel to the SNES one in Japan. The SNES one is excellent though, fully patched and can be easily found prepatched with a google search. Shin Megami Tensei II is a great horror style first person RPG and is also patched. S.O.S is also a great game though its more of a disaster horror though. It has some really neat concepts and had a U.S release.

The one we got in the US as Clock Tower was indeed the sequel, but in Japan there was a Playstation port of the SNES game called Clock Tower The First Fear.

Yeah I know, its just a previous poster said that the fan translation was based on our Playstation version which it wasn't.

It seems obvious, but there are of course the 2 Castlevanias on the SNES. A lot of people didn't like Dracula X, but I actually did, it felt very much like the originals.

I don't know if it's getting away from true "horror", but Demon's Crest had some cool characters in it. And if we're going down that path, then Super Ghouls and Ghosts and Ghosts is there too (given that the main character from Demon's Crest came out of that game).
