Looking for simple Japanese games

Post by Ducky »

Hi there,

I decided that I'd like to help encourage myself to keep studying Japanese while on holiday with some Japanese games, and I've come to you guys for help.
I need something I can read with hiragana and katakana, but some simple kanji (or with furigana) would be welcome, as well. The game will also have to be obviously text-heavy and something I can emulate or play on my PSP. I also have a DS, so I can take that along to.
I'm thinking of having a Japanese dictionary with me while I play so I can pick up new vocab as I go along.
It's kinda hard to rate how familiar I am with the language, but I have finished my third high school year in Japanese and am getting consistent B grade. Part of the reason as to why I'd like to do this is to help get ahead of the class. :D
If this isn't enough then I'm happy to answer question to help give a better idea.

Thanks guys!

I'd recommend any game that is based off of a manga/anime that is popular with kids. Naruto, Bey Blade, Digimon, and I'm sure plenty others would be good choices.

How about the Zaidan Houjin or Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten soft?. They're in Japanese, but you should be fine with this sort of things if you're okay with kana and basic grammar/vocab.

The DS has awesome softs for studying Japanese.

Bimoji Training for the DS is pretty sweet. I don't own it (yet) but I have played a demo and it seemed to be a really great way to practice your handwriting skills.
