I am suprised no one has mentioned the Sega Master System. They had 3D games 20 years ago, with glasses that werent the red/blue headache. The games I have actually have a pretty cool 3D effect, but the reality is that I dont ever feel like pulling out the glasses to play.

I predict that as the 3D glasses, wiimotes, six-axis controllers, wii heart-rate-sensors, Project Natals, and EyeToy wands stack up, Sega will come crashing in with a revolutionary new system that allows you to play games with just your fingers(!) on a controller and they will take over the gaming world.

Joking aside, I do have an interest in 3D gaming and motion control. Even if they are gimmicks, they sometimes provide really cool experiences. For example, I love the flying segments in Antigrav for EyeToy. It feels so cool to just stretch out your arms and glide your character through the air. I also don't think a movie like Avatar can properly be appreciated without the 3D. These kind of experiences aren't possible without the technology that drives them, and I think there will be games that utilize them to similar effect, even if a dual analog setup or keyboard + mouse setup really are the most versatile all-around-good controllers there are.

I kinda think it needs to work w/o glasses, I mean I already wear glasses. I don't want to try and wear 2 pair of glasses. I'm not dying to get 3D but I'm interested...but I did just get two new LCD TV's last year and a new LCD monitor just a few months ago.

I think I'd be more inclined to buy those glasses with monitors built into them with 3D function.
Ocelot, did it again...sorry Boss !

I don't see why they just can't make it so you could keep your existing HDTV and use some special glasses. There has to be a way you can just wear the glasses, and just update your console or player to enable 3D. Granted, I don't really know how the new 3D works but, its gonna be a tough sell to get people to dish out for a new screen. Especially since most people have replaced their existing sets with the recent price drops on HDTVs in the last couple years.

In order to be able to use an existing set each eye would be getting a 3D image at 30 FPS, which is low enough to be noticable when it switches back and forth from a right eye and left eye image.

I find it hilarious that everyone is getting weirded out that GT5 is going to be taking advantage of tech that people don't have yet.

Like this is something new. Gran Turismo 3 had the ability to use 3 screens at once. How many people do you think took advantage of that? Gran Turismo 4 had 1080i support. 1080i in a PlayStation 2 game!

C'mon. This is nothing new. Gran Turismo has always been more than cutting edge. They've always been more than bleeding edge. They're the people from the 1800s that were talking about flying cars and a 4-course meal in pill-form.

You know most Sega Saturn games ran at 30FPS, right?

And with delayed rendering techniques, many next-gen games run at around that for final output to screen for big chunks of gameplay too?

(Not forgetting film runs at 24FPS too).

Personally, I hate this growing trend of 3D. It always hurts my eyes when I watch it for more than a few minutes, and it almost never does anything worth watching. I think the whole idea is just stupid, and I will not play a game in 3D.
