How does the Atari Jaguar save games?

Post by ReddMcKnight »

Does it save in the carts using battery back ups? Does it save like GBA Games so the saves never get deleted? Or does it save to a battery in the system?

I first saw your title and was about to say "It doesn't." Then I realized you meant that you were wondering how it maintains your save files for Jaguar games.

It likely uses a standard CR2032. So you should be able to desolder the existing battery and put back in a new spot-welded battery, similar to what you do with an SNES cart. You'd have to open it up to be sure, but the operation should be the same (the battery type might be different).

And don't try to solder tabs on batteries yourself, you will ruin the battery. I learned this the hard way. :?

Those are spot welds that hold they tabs on the batteries. Spot welding happens very quickly, so it doesn't have time for the heat to mess up the battery.
