Good single player PC freeware FPS games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Good single player PC freeware FPS games?

Post by Flak Beard »

Seems like the free FPS games I stumble upon are either multi-player focused, or have just a "bots" mode as the single player component.

Can anyone recommend some good single-player, campaign driven FPS games that are free?

America's Army 3 is actually pretty good, even if it is military propoganda:

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is another freeware FPS game. I haven't actually played it, though I did download it. It's supposed to have a single player campaign.

I haven't played it yet, but there is a bit of a following for Cube 2: Sauerbraten. I think it does have a single player campaign.

Also, F.E.A.R. Combat is free and has good multiplayer, though there is no single player. I just thought it was worth mentioning anyway.

Here's another one that is kind of geeky, but fun. It's called 8-bit Killer. It's not as impressive as the other big guns I mentioned.

Et is multiplayer only, no one plays it anymore anyway.

The statement that nobody plays it anymore is absolutely wrong. There are a large amount of servers that are packed full 24/7

Fear combat is a pile of shit now, so you know. There are little to no servers, and everyone hacks. Punk Buster was pulled from it for some reason, so now EVERYONE uses wall and speed hacks. Not even worth your time.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

I enjoyed a Wolfenstein 3D total conversion called Spear End of Destiny. It's a sequel to a not-so-good fan made sequel of Spear of Destiny, prequel to Wolfenstein 3D. Oh, and by the way, by the time you get to Spear End of Destiny, it's also a sequel to Wolf3D.
If you can get past all that sequel nonsense, it's actually a good game. Better than the official games, in fact. You'll need to run it in DosBox to have any sound, unless you have an old Soundblaster 16 card lying around like I do.
Here's a link to the page you can download it at, if you're interested: http://www.areyep.com/RIPandMCS-EoD-Main.html

The game was great when it came out. They put as more effort and thought into it as any other good retail FPS. This is still my favorite FPS that use classes. Easily put 100ish hours towards the game. Being free back then was awesome for a game with so much quality. However in 2010, I don't know how much it would appeal people with many good FPS played since.

I remember there weren't many original maps though (like around 6 or 7). Wonder if they updated and added more.

As far as I know there aren't any new official maps, but yeah I started it up again and there are still people playing :)

Seems like my current itch for FPS can't be cured. Any more freebies you guys can think of?
