HOW DO I MOD AN XBOX? I'm at my wits end!

I know noting of FTP, IRC (I literally sent my first instant message a little over two months ago) or any of these other fucking hoops that these people are making me jump through, I just want to mod my damn Xbox!

How do I do this the DIRT SIMPLE way, no code no l33t speak, just simple instructions with on simple file in 5 short minutes.

Anybody?

EDIT: I already have splinter cell, a memory card, EVOX installed to the card and then it boots into the EVOX menu, when I'm there how the heck do I do the rest?

EDIT! 2!: Ok, now I know how to get it to show up in FTP, but I keep getting list errors.

Also look up autoxbins, it makes getting on xbins way less of a hassle.

Edit: Oh and I wouldn't bother with flashfxp even though it's recommended a lot. Just use filezilla or whatever you already have, it'll work just fine.

I actually managed to get connected and transfer XBMC to my Xbox, but now I just get an error message whenever I try to use it.

I found the Softmod Installer Deluxe method pretty straightforward. I just followed the manual and everything went smoothly. I'm not sure if it will be a problem if you already have other softmods installed. Will probably have to uninstall that first if you want to try this.

you can also try a search for slayers auto installer disk. i think it's up to version 4.0 now, or you can try a search for softmod installer deluxe, tho not sure on the current version. FOr additional help, you can go here for more help in softmodding your oxbox:

Sounds like he's going the softmod route. I assume, because he's using Splinter Cell, that he's using the ndure exploit.

I'm really not sure what is so hard about this softmod. The hardest part is getting exploit on the memory card, you run the exploit by loading the hacked save within splinter cell. Wait for the exploit to do it's stuff, then follow the instructions. I just told it to back up the eeprom etc to the hard drive, selected a dual boot method (where you can still boot to the normal xbox dashboard) and then waited for it to do it's stuff, when it was done it just loaded the dashboard. Literally 10 minute job.


When you say you've transferred XBMC to your hard drive, have you replaced the default.xbe? Or have you just copied it to the apps folder?

Ditto for me. When I started, I had a bit of frustration with "slow" ftp speeds until I figured out that the ftp server that comes with evox sucks. unleashx or xbmc is much better.

Get rid of EVOX it sucks. Unleashx is the best dashboard for xbox. XBMC is nice, but all the additional stuff it does sometimes just isn't necessary. Not if all you want to do is load up an emulator. XBMC takes several seconds longer to load from cold than unleashx does. Plus you can edit the menus with a simple xml file in unleashx. I just have my unleashx split into apps, games, emulators, system. It's much easier to navigate. In the emulators section it is split into system. So it's very straight forward to get into a game.

I used the ltools package to do mine. It's very easy and straightforward. I would assume you could find it at xbins or a torrent somewhere (just make sure you get the right one for which game you are using). Then download UnleashX (like others said, it's much better than EvoX, and replace the files in E:\Dashboard with UnleashX files.
