My ps2 wont read discs anymore after my little brother was playing around with the laser. It is a ps2 slim. I am not sure what to do with it now. I have a new ps2 though.
Anyone have ideas on how to fix it?
Any ideas on what to do with it?
I'm not sure i'll make any money off of it on eBay. I don't know anything about modifying though either.

Have you tried using a cotton swab to just lightly dab the laser lens with alcohol?
That should work if all your brother did was smudge up the laser. Otherwise, he might have misaligned the laser, and the repair for that is much more involved.

Its misaligned. When i walked in the room i could hear a *clickclick* noise. Now when i put in a disc it spins and makes the loudest cranking noise.dedalusdedalus wrote:Have you tried using a cotton swab to just lightly dab the laser lens with alcohol?

Yep, that sounds fubar. Does it grind all the way along it's track? If it does then the mechanism is probably bust.
Do me a favour and throw the PS2 at him. That's about all it's good for now.

You could get some parts from modchip.ca
http://www.modchip.ca/store/home.php?cat=255
I've ordered a few PS2 parts from them and the parts were all good.

Dont worry, they moved all the consoles into my room and he isnt allowed to play them unless it's with me. So it all worked out for the better, my gf just gave me her ps2 slim.
Re: Playstation 2 help (wont read disc)
I would, except im not a technical guy. I don't know how to fix things. Maybe if someone knows of a video or something on how to fix stuff like this, because i like the idea of modding and stuff.Anapan wrote:You could get some parts from modchip.ca

Don't worry to much, the PS2 slim is a really simple console when it comes to internals, there's only about four parts that really matter and it's all large integrated pieces, much easier to deal with than it's larger predecessors.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I'll take your word for it. I might order a new laser because i'm pretty sure thats the problem. But at the same time i might look up some mods. The ps2 is already broken, so nothing i do could screw it up more. Any cool ones you know about?Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Don't worry to much, the PS2 slim is a really simple console when it comes to internals, there's only about four parts that really matter and it's all large integrated pieces, much easier to deal with than it's larger predecessors.

Free MC Boot, it's the single best mod you can perform for your PS2 outside of buying a physical modchip (Modchips are complex and require experienced soldering skills) and is extremely simple to use once installed to your memory card.tahoe2 wrote:I'll take your word for it. Installing it to your memory card is a bit of a pain n the ass, but just talk to a few of the guys here on the forums and they'll be more than glad to do it for you.
