no.

as you can see from the link those are just the mods. When you buy a pc game you buy 2-20 games depending on it's community. hell half life 1 is still getting mods

Dude...the ones for half life 1 look crazy...dbz fighting from half life? how the hell lmao. The biggest one that I saw...that upgrade on diablo 2...man...I WISH I could have kept playing, that upgrade looks awesome. 210 new skills!?? jesus.

Earth Special Forces - aka the Dragonball Half-Life 1 mod, has been in constant development since 2000. It kinda shocks me that people still play it, but then again I can still occasionally find games of Outlaws online.

It sure isn't dying. But with so many console->pc ports, and stupid crap like not supporting dedicated servers (mw2) companies sure are trying. The pc community is incredibly strong though, imo mods and hacks will keep it alive for a very long time.

PC games have had network play for a long time. Doom on DOS had LAN play over IPX way back when. Quake brought us the concept of playing over TCP/IP and the greater internet.

What were consoles doing at this time for network play? Almost nothing. The Dreamcast brought dial-up three years AFTER Quake was being played on 10mbit/s LANs.

For that reason, PCs dominated online gaming, and drew the people in. With the people came the market share, and with the market share came the flood of developers.

Fast forward a decade, and all consoles now have online play. Home internet connections are fast and easy to set up, and all the consoles have standard connectivity via wired or wireless connections. So the masses switch back to consoles that are cheaper to purchase, don't require as frequent upgrades, and are nearly maintenance free (the occasional update, but certainly not the same effort as maintaining a Windows PC).

From a commercial perspective, console gaming gives you access to a wider audience and a standard platform (no guessing which video card or CPU your customer is using).

The glaring upside of the home PC of course is the $0 development tools and $0 distribution. For indie devs, this is a huge way to get your product and talent noticed, and invariably end up writing console code for profit. :)

Different places... I often hear about them through kotaku. Occassionally I check out who the nominees for the IGF awards are going to be and I try out those games. Sometimes I check search by "indie" in Steam or D2D and learn more about the games available. Otherwise, I scan through the mountains of free games that I have linked to in my DOWNLOAD OVERLOAD thread.

How can the flexibility of the keyboard + mouse be outmatched by a controller for games like Gears of War? And isn't it possible in most if not all PC games to switch the controls? Including mouse sensitivity and keys?

You can always make your own setup...but that is the ONLY game *gears of war* I have EVER played that was a console port...that was just a turd. I can not think of any other game that was that bad, atleast halo was more fun that that pos.
Deus Ex Invisible War was pretty miserable as well. Navigating the menus with a mouse made you realize that it was intended for a controller.

I actually didn't have too many problems with Gears of War. I never felt like I was wrestling with the controls other than sometimes spotty detection on whether I wanted to duck behind something or vault over it, but that would have been present with a controller.

I am guessing you can fix all of that by paying like $60 for ps3/360 controller?

PC can run anything basically, but i think most people forgot that PC's run games, its mainstream now(like Wii) , and people probably play puzzle games on it.

Pc can run: All emulation(big list) DOS-and probably any windows game, because you can install partition with older OS's. Not to mention current games are still alive on the PC.

PC is probably best choice for gaming, you only miss out on exclusives if you got a controller.

btw, do they sell 360 USB wire? I didn't get one with my 360, as far as I can remember, therefor I can't use it

I could easily see myself going back to full-time PC gaming once the current generation of consoles has passed. With all three companies having their sights set on motion controls, I'm going to need a place to get good 'ol "tactile response".

Try $5 for a generic USB controller with analogue sticks.

I took it back tonight with the dos box...played a little bit of duke nukem 3d made me feel like a kid again. The only reason I got away from pc gaming is for the fact I run my pc thru my tv and it needs a upgrade to game harddcore vs the 19 inch widescreen it was once on. Its not a major upgrade...but IF I am going to upgrade I might as well build an i7 system.
