Genesis 2 composite/s-video?
Anyone know how (or of a tutorial) to mod a genesis 2 to have rca or an s-video connection like the one in this picture?

The Genny doesn't natively put out a Svid signal (though it does do composite and you just need to buy the cables for it or make some that'll fit the jack in the back).
As for Svid... best bet is to get a Sony CXA1145P composite encoder chip or similar (I think something like the MB3514... I may of spelled that wrong though)... this chip I say because a lot of people use it with high success and quality and also they are cheap... and most importantly it puts out luminence and chrominance... the two signals you require for svid.
See your problem is finding a dealer that'll sell a small order to you though. They are usually only sold in bulk... this is the reason why people charge 40 bucks to do the job... they invested in the parts up front, know the process... it isn't all that easy to do. OR you can just rip the comp encoder out of a SNES or something.
It is easy to locate the the chip in any console that you know has Svid by following the traces from the video jack back and through the resistors. Carefully desolder the chip and then put it in your Genny. (of course removing the genny's chip)

Well then I don't think I'll do the s-video. But I really want to attempt the composite. I have so many cables for various systems, I would rather not try to figure out "which one goes to which system" every time. I hate these stupid proprietary plugs, ex: took nintendo 3 tries till they finally released a gba with a real 1/4" headphone jack.
EDIT: Got out my voltage meter and figured everything out. It's Easter today, so radio shack is closed. I'll get the composite jacks tomorrow and have this soldered up in no time.

as far as the quality of the work on the case, and having it all done, I think the $40 is a fair price. I'm not personally looking to go s-video, but I would still like to know who is doing work on gennys =)jemsic wrote:I found it in google images. The guy will do this for you for like $40. That's ridiculous  .
