Recommendations on Neo Geo AES controller

Post by dedalusdedalus »

I'd like some feedback regarding what the best Neo Geo AES controller is.

The original controller is fine, but I'm dissatisfied with the overall build of the controller. The plastic just feels cheap and flimsy.

I'm thinking of switching to a Neo Geo CD controller, or some third party controller. Do any Neo Geo connoisseurs have suggestions on what the absolute best Neo Geo controller is? It would also be awesome if there were such a thing as a wireless Neo Geo controller.

Dissatisfied with the original joystick? Seriously? :?:

The control pads for the NGCD are great... but then again, that just most people's opinions.

Yeah, I know I'm in the very small minority because I'm dissatisfied with the Neo Geo original controllers. I might need to have my head examined, but I just don't think the joystick gives enough resistance...makes it hard for me to pull off special moves in Samurai Shodown.

Guess I'll go ahead with my plan to try out the NGCD pads.

I've seen these arcade board controllers on ebay for like $110. Has anybody here tried those out?

I actually modified the stick you sold me with Sanwa parts and might make it wireless in the future. If you're interested in CD pads, I do have 2 that I might be willing to part. Let me know.

I was just razing you. They were awesome controllers in 1990. Now, they don't quite compare to more modern sticks like the ones that Hori put out for the Saturn and Dreamcast. I generally use the NGCD pad when I play Neo Geo unless I'm showing off the system to friends.

OK, what about the kidney-shaped Neo Geo controllers? Anybody have any experience with those?

I have read up about them the other day and the general consensus on the Neo Geo forums is that the stick is so light that it is very hard to play fighters but is perfect for everything else. You can't change the buttons out of them either I believe.

I actually really like the 2nd edition of the arcade sticks (sometimes called the NGCD arcade sticks). There is an indent on the top of the joystick which fits the thumb well for lazy gamers like myself and usually they seem more virginal than the loose old Neo Geo AES normal arcade sticks.

or chase a Neo Hori Stick, weighty, meaty and decent.

You guys gave excellent advice.

I just got a Neo Geo CD controller from Japan for 23.50 shipped, and I'm loving it. The joystick nub is surprisingly responsive, and it has this awesome "clicky" feel to it that really hasn't been used anywhere else.

Maybe when I have money to burn, I'll also try out that Hori Neo Geo pad that was mentioned on this thread.
