Need help finding adapter for LCD Monitor- JAPANESE MEMBERS?

Post by dsheinem »

So I won the LCD monitor in the charity auction, knowing that it was missing an AV cable and/or adapter. I now kind of know what adapter I need, but can't seem to find one or figure out if I can get it to work with any of my TV/PC equipment (e.g. a Standard Def or Hi-Def Satellite Receiver, a VGA Video Card, anything else...).

So, I've decided to turn to the tech brain trust here.

First off, here's what I have:

Here's the plug:

A discussion from someone in my same boat is here:
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/5590 ... nment.html

In the end of that thread, they determine that the plug/adapter is somewhat common in Japan, and that an adapter might be made by ACON. ACON's site is here, but I couldn't find what I was looking for: http://www.acon.com/

Since it has built in speakers, I am considering using this for a TV instead of a PC monitor, but I need some way to get an adapter (or a series of adapters) to make it functional. Any ideas?!

Any chance some of our Japanese/international members know what I'm looking for or could easily find/ship one to me?

The white box that is pictured on geeks.com is the part that I lost. I have looked and looked for the damned thing but I was never able to locate it yet. I can say for certain that with the right adapter the monitor definitely works as well as the speakers. All of the OSD menus are in japanese though.

I thought maybe the adapter could be found easily by a forum member in Japan.

Anyway, should I come across the original adapter I will send it along promptly.

Hmmm. It looks like you could wire a DVI connector to it. Use a multimeter to work out which pin goes to which wire in the cable, make a note, and then use this to wire to this

The pins marked TX are your data pins (I assume, they usually are). So wire TX0- and TX0+ to DAT0- and DAT0+ etc. Should be fairly straight forward. Not sure where the audio comes from though...

That's what I'd do anyway. Obviously, don't cut the connector off just incase it doesn't work, it'll be a bitch to wire back together, just split the wires off to a seperate DVI connector.

If someone found a pinout, it looks like something could be hacked together.

The audio is part of the same cable as the video signal I believe. That is the only cable that went to the monitor. The audio then plugged in to the adapter.

hacking something together is not really a solution I want to try, as I don't trust myself to not mess something up.

What I really need, I guess, is the box pictured on that first site. jp1, do you remember anything about what the output on that box was?

Anyone know where I might find a similar box?

You need an older DFP connector

Here's some info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Flat_Panel

To find a replacement Just google:

Digital Flat Panel cable.
or
DFP Connector to HDMI
