2010 will be the last year for PS2 games, as I believe the PS2 is being discontinued later in the year.Snickerd00dle wrote:well i dont think for a while, i mean they are still making ps2 games...ten years later

Re: when are the next generation of consoles?
Considering at this point in the original Xbox's lifespan, it was getting replaced by the 360, i think we've got a ways to go. Nothing is being said about the Xbox 3 yet and it's definitely not coming next holiday since they're pushing Natal. So a new Xbox is at least 2 years away, and PS3 and Wii will be at least a year after that. Although I would expect to see an HD version of the wii by holiday 2011.
Re: when are the next generation of consoles?
I disagree, those are just iterations on the same hardware, yes the DSi added some new peripherals (camera, marketplace) but no new real functions or hardware, it doesn't outperform the previous DS models. I'm talking more CPU cycles, more ram, possibly tilt sensing, rumble built in, more pixels, higher capacity carts, dual touch screens etc, the works a Real follow up, not an iteration on an existing product. I know Nintendo is still selling the DS very well so they might not be too worried about getting a new one to market but Sony on the other hand might be itching to get a new PSP out soon, and neither wants to get beat on a launch.Snickerd00dle wrote:the dsJWatts wrote: Better question is where is the DS Advanced...

Re: when are the next generation of consoles?
When it makes economic sense.
When a company thinks that it can release something that will sell units because it has eye-popping graphics, new desirable technologies (e.g. 3D, some new interactive hardware, etc.) then it will. Even then, most consoles take a while until they can be sold for a profit (I think Sony is still losing on PS3s, for example), so no company is going to release anything in this current economic climate unless they are pretty damn sure that it will move hardware AND software.
I think we'd be talking about a new console coming late this year or early next year if the economy was in the same shape it was 3-4 years ago. But it's not, which means that we'll probably be seeing iterations of the PS3 and 360 and Wii until probably the middle part of this decade.

Re: when are the next generation of consoles?
The DSi does outperform the DSlite. The DSi runs at 133mhz and has 16meg of RAM. The DSlite runs at 66mhz and has 4 meg of RAM. It's only a matter of time until Nintendo starts releasing DSi only titles.yes the DSi added some new peripherals (camera, marketplace) but no new real functions or hardware, it doesn't outperform the previous DS models. Re: when are the next generation of consoles?
not too mention what Hatta said, but again economics, there is no reason for NIntendo to release a new handheld when they are doing just fine with the ds, i mean, look at how long the gba was around? and the gameboy before that?JWatts wrote:I disagree, those are just iterations on the same hardware, yes the DSi added some new peripherals (camera, marketplace) but no new real functions or hardware, it doesn't outperform the previous DS models. Re: when are the next generation of consoles?
This is the best answer. Just buy the PS3. Nothing's coming down the pike for quite a while, from any of the hardware manufacturers. It's a freaking sweet slice of technology and lots of fun.dsheinem wrote:When it makes economic sense.

Eh, I doubt it. They'll keep them on shelves as long as people will buy them. No reason to cut off that revenue source. It's not keeping people from buying a PS3 - that's more than three times the price and the games are much more expensive, new and used.Betamax001 wrote:2010 will be the last year for PS2 games, as I believe the PS2 is being discontinued later in the year.

Wait... I'm confused...pureevil wrote:I was thinking of getting a ps3 as they have cut the price, but then I remembered this always means that a new console is on the harrisen anyone know when next jen is out?or have any other info?
Did you mean a new console is on the harrier? You mean like Space Harrier? Does that mean that Sega is putting out a new system?

Re: when are the next generation of consoles?
News just in from my contact at Sega HQ. They're going to make a console. It's codename is Jupiter. It is going to have two 8 core CELL processors and have a mobile centric HD5870 powering the graphics. It will be the same foot print as 3 CD cases stacked on top of each other and be powered by God.
It's due Holiday 2010.
