What game/system started you off on collecting?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

About 6 months ago my cousin started selling his old N64 & SNES items and realized that he was being stupid. He went back and started buying stuff again and I went along for the ride and added an N64 and got the SNES I had as a kid; my sister had it. Now I'm trying to get a nice collection for all of my systems and just traded for a Saturn; I'm stoked. Now if I can find a Genesis and a Coleco I'll be set for awhile.
We get through our current trades and I will see if I can dig up a Genny for you!

My parents owned a storage facility for the longest time....People would rent it out and if they didnt pay their rent for a year or come get their stuff it defaulted to us......Well some guy didn't pay for a year and my parents didn't bother reminding him after the first month or two and kinda forgot about..About a year and a half later they decided to open up the storage facility. They found an atari jag+cd with tempest 2000,alien vs. predator, rayman, white men can't jump, kasumi ninja, blue lighting and vid grid in the same box. They gave it too me and i went apeshit.

From then on i started buying up several retro consoles starting with a sega saturn an NES and a virtual boy that my uncle had=).From then it progressed to super nintendo and genny. It went into more obscure directions from there with consoles like Neo Geo, 3DO,Turbo duo,PC-FX, and Amiga CD32=). I got a part time job to help fuel my retro gaming habits, and despite my reletively young age of 16 i have amassed quite a large collection^.^

It is so awesome to see the younger collectors!

My first system was a SNES. I played it a lot as a child. Mario All Stars, Mario Kart, Batman Returns, and Yoshi's Island were my primary staples. Eventually I got PS2 and the SNES went to my basement for a good five or six years.

Then my interest in my snes was rekindled after bringing it out of my basement and playing the old classics, Then I got to thinking of all the games I never had owned before so I decided to visit my local retro stores. I bought games that I had rented hundreds of times like Kirby Superstar, and the super Star Wars games. After accumulated more games I realized my favorite retro genre was run-n-gun. I had played Jurassic Park 2 and Judge Dred but never Contra. I asked my old brother if he remembered any other games similar to those. His answer: Contra III.

Contra III was a revelation. It was to me the perfection of my favorite genre. The controls were down to a teeth, 8 directional shooting! The somersault jump was awe inspiring compared to all the movie based run-n-guns I played. The game had set pieces like no other run-n-gun. In particular the 4th level. Fighting a sword wielding ninja with a jet pack as you were flying on a helicopter!

Contra III was the game that truly started my pursuit of retro games. It coincidentally happened to be the first complete game I picked up that wasn't apart of my original collection. This game for better or worse has made me want all the other games in the series. Buying a genesis and a new DS were the direct result of one game. So now I have Contra 4(Contra and Super C if you want to count unlockables. I do), Hard corps, and Operation C.

In the process I have accumulated plenty of other great games like Ranger X, Streets of Rage, Shinobi Series, Sunset Riders, Atomic Runner, and the Sonic games.

Please forgive my long winded explanation and the possible grammatical errors. I am not good at articulating my feelings or experiences in the written word.

I first started collecting on PC, and then shortly afterward on PS1. It just grew from there.
