So I tried to beat Streets of Rage on my Nomad last night...

Post by jfe2 »

Last night, while battling insomnia, I attempted to play through the Sega 6-Pack version of Streets of Rage on my Nomad. It could just be due to the fact that I was half asleep while playing it, I was really surprised at how well it holds up. If's definitely repetitive, but it kept me wanting to play for some reason.

I didn't use any of my continues until stage 3, and ended up getting a game over in stage 5. I felt like I was getting close to the end of the game, because one of the bosses I had fought earlier charged into the stage and took my last life. Totally felt like the beginning of a boss gauntlet!

So is it just me, or should I have gotten further in the game? I'm sure its a totally beatable game, but I felt kinda lame having gotten a game over like that. :(

Now I kind of want to try to play through the entire game, and move on to the next two in the series. I also might give Beats of Rage a try, since I've heard some good things about it so far.

Is stage 5 the one where your on a boat? I hate that level, there is still a few more levels after it (None of which I can remember other than the elevator stage which I always hated) I think there's 7 stages, but not 100%

Golden Axe is on the 6-Pack cart as well. I played through a few levels of that, but wasn't really serious about trying to beat it. Great game though!

Yeah it was on a boat. Two more stages after that, eh? I think I could manage that.

I want to play some two-player Streets of Rage, but the wife isn't having it and my son is too young. :(

I really really hate that boss that that charges at you with the flamethrower mouth. God he is annoying. If i was playing Co Op it could be a bit manageable to beat him as one player is bait while the other guy could attack from behind.

Had a quick look on a guide, there is 8 levels, I forgot the level between the boat and the elevator. I really need to get hold of some RGB cables / 32x so I can enjoy this game again (and start beefing up my genny collection)

Yeah, he pissed me off pretty bad. I would finally get behind him, and if you try to suplex him he just lands on you. :?

Finally beat him though. Had to wear him down for a while...

What always gets me is when he shows up again in the Hallway level when you keep going left. He i would be on my last continue and on my last life and BAM flamethrower dude. I really want to play it with another person still. I need a another Genny controller for that though.

The fat flamethrower guy isn't a patch on the stage 5 boss though. Those 2 Blaze recolours are a nightmare. I wish Blaze could do some of the stuff they can do!

Also, unfortunately, you're nowhere enar a boss rush yet. A couple of the old bosses show up again. I seem to remember the stage 6 boss being a rehash of either the stage 1 or stage 2 boss but harder, and some of the other guys show up as mini bosses.

The finalo stage has a very long corridor filled with LOADS of baddies and all the bosses, and is very hard. I normally break my way through without dying too much when who should be guarding the door to the final boss but those damn blaze recolours again.

So many wasted lives on those two ....
