I think that Indy games have concepts with more appeal to me than commercial games. Shame that they often don't come through - but at least from the video it seemed that this one was very high quality :) (and it won the main Indy prize in 2008, so...).

I also would like to re-state my opinion from the previous time such a promotion was done.

Note that as it is being paid via Paypal, the devs only get a profit after a certain threshold. IMO the devs themselves should have put the minimum donation at a price point where they get like 0.01 or 0.1 of profit, and explain clearly that at that price point they start getting tiny profit per transaction (the other part of that price point is basically for Paypal and server costs).
Otherwise many customers may not remember this or think about it.

Beyond that "minimum" (which should at least be advertised by the Devs, if not "enforced"), I think nobody should feel ashamed for giving them the minimum if they feel that's what they want to pay for the game.

If I decide to "buy", I intend to donate a rather small amount (but above the minimum), but regardless I think that any money the devs get from me is better than zero. I'm fairly sure I wouldn't buy or play their game otherwise, but I appreciate this sort of pricing scheme. I think it is partly for reaching customers like me that they are running this sort of promotion instead of a more traditional one where they just lower the price to a specific amount.

I was interested in the game, but really didn't deem it worthy of more than 5 dollars, so I hadn't bought it yet. So this is a great opportunity to show I do support them and hope they keep working on fun little things like that.

This. I think they only make money at a minium 40 cents US price or something. I paid 2 dollars US.

I honestly think they should tell people in advance about it, and they also might be better off setting a minimum of 0.50 or so. I think many of the people that pay values beneath those either wouldn't mind putting up with a higher minimum (particularly knowing the justification) and would still buy, or then they wouldn't buy and play the game but at least they're not pulling it off the server either.
As it is, I think they will get many 0.01 or 0.10s (whatever the actual minimum is this time), which I'm guessing go directly for Paypal and might even eat a bit into their profit for the whole promotion due to the bandwidth costs.

I think 2DBoy (the World of Goo guys) mentioned the threshold point midway through the promotion. I thought initially that as it was set up as "donations" instead of purchases that there were different rules so that Paypal wouldn't eat so much of those "micro" transactions.
