Master System/Genesis Joystick Addon

Post by lisalover1 »

I know that the Master System and Genesis [and I believe the game-specific CDi controller] had a hole in the center of the D-Pad that a small joystick add-on could be screwed in. It's only recently that I've realized that I've never actually seen any of these. If they were ever released, where could I get some? I've searched on the internet, but haven't found anything.

wow. Once you mentioned this I feel like I used to have one. But I have no solid recollection. It just "sounds" really familiar to me... hmm...

Wait, are you looking to find just the sticks or complete controllers? I have a Master System one.

The Arcadia 2001 and the 7800 gamepad also had screw-in thumb sticks.

There's a difference between an arcade stick controller, and a joystick add-on for a standard controller. Just to be clear, this is NOT what I mean:

Yeah, there are 3 styles of SMS pads. First have the wire out the side and I believe had the hole. Second version has wire out the top and the hole. Third version just has a smooth centered d pad.

Gravis has made PC gamepads with a little stick you can screw into the d pad as well:

I have two controllers from an undefined console in a box somewhere, they came with a second-hand Commodore 64, they both have holes in the D-pad with small joysticks screwed into them. My Master System controllers have the holes, but not the joysticks, I haven't tried to take them out of the other ones and fit them in the Master System controllers, but I don't know where exactly those controllers are...
