Interesting article and good write up. It was a good, quick read.

However, I'd give your graphs a 3 out of 10. That being said, to me, it's paramount that charts/graphs are easy to decipher and pleasing to the eye. Yours just seemed to be rushed. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just giving some honest criticism.

Now, criticism wouldn't be constructive if you didn't give advice. I would have used the game art from the box as a background (watermark would work). The Marvel vs. Capcom 2 game covers up a good amount of data. I'd also add a legend, as you really shouldn't add a chart/graph without one. Another idea would be to highlight the "Highs and Lows", and not point out every price point.

I could go on, but displaying research puts food on my table, so I'm pretty opinionated when it comes to it. I'm happy to lend a hand if you'd like.
They were a tad rushed -- I'm actually on the road at my brother's place for his wedding, so I was trying to wrap it up. I may revise it down the line, but I kinda wanted to get it published. Sorry :( Also didn't help that I used Google Docs for the chart and haven't really mastered how to make more of it better.

You know, looking at these charts really makes me wish they would port Radiant Silvergun to XBLA or PSN... I have a burned copy, but I would love to own it and that's one game that's price hasn't seemed to have gone down in recent memory.

I wonder what all those yobos are doing to the price of original hardware. I would love it if those Sega Genesis handhelds would lower the price on a Nomad.

Am I the only one who collects for myself, and not for investment?

I've sold three games ever, and regretted it ever since. I've sworn never to sell a game or console again.

I wonder how many others are in the same boat?

Hope your brother's wedding is a blast, and yeah google docs probably wasn't the best program to create the graphs.

Overall, I really enjoyed the read, I'm obviously just picky about displaying/conveying data.

+1. Besides the charity auction, which I bought games for and didn't sell any existing games, I've only sold one game, Actraiser.

Wedding is today -- so far, so good.
And if you have any additional tips, maybe I can play around with them.
I might do another piece with graphs down the line also...

Good deal. When I got married last March, I had a fever of 103.2, but was able to enjoy every minute of it (mostly).

I'd be more than happy to send you some examples of graphs I've made for work, although the content will be incredibly boring, unless you are really into the progress of sales in mobile communication.

But, feel free to use me as a resource if you'd like.

nope. Same here. I collect games that I want to play. I don't have sealed games. I don't plan on reselling (I may trade a game off if I don't especially like it or if I have doubles). I definitely don't think of it as day-trading or something. I have a copy of Ikaruga, and it's because I want it. It's a great game. Not because it's worth a lot.
