Re: What game/system started you off on collecting?
How I got into collecting retro games happened about 3 years ago. I was at this music/gamestore that sold a bunch of old games and I saw a Sega Genesis with the Sega CD and 32X attatchment for sale. I then pictured all the great times I had with my genesis when I was 7 and had always wanted a Sega CD and 32X when I was younger so I bought it and I suddenly had a fucking blast from the past. I just couldn't get enough of the retro goodness that came out of the Genesis/CD/32X and then started expanding my horizon to other old retro game systems that I had always wanted to play when I was younger like the like the Neo Geo,3DO, Jaguar, and TG-16.

I have always collected/obsessed about something. When I was in jr high, I was obsessed with rpg's (I had the playstation at the time). Me and my brother "shared" a SNES, Genesis, and PS1. In high school, I played way to much MTG. A year a half ago I moved out of my mom's house, at the ripe age of 20. Being able to use the TV and not change it to the news really kick started my video game buying. I sold the last of my MTG cards I was willing to sell (I kept a few decks for the once a year I play now). I sold those and a bunch of other junk on ebay. I figure I need to get rid of junk before I buy more (as I am still renting and will have to one day move this collection).

I started to collect after I bought my PS1 back in 1998.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

I started just collecting games for the PS1. Then, about a year ago, I found Racketboy and started collecting games for many other consoles. I have accumulated about 6 more consoles since then.

Those are some good stories. It seems the "I found an old...." is pretty common. It makes think to myself that so many of us are in it for the right reasons, not like over on Ebay. The inflated prices and now the fools are getting "sealed" games graded, it is ridiculous. They take the fun out of it.
A sealed game is neat, and complete ones are cool too, but damn 1000 bucks for any game is stupid. I just see everyones story and it pisses me off that they are trying to steal our hobby by pricing us out of it. Done ranting, LOL.

Heck, I think $50+ for most games is dumb and $100+ is just asanine. Unfortunately my 2 most wanted games are pretty much going to be over $100 and since they're both imports, I'm not going to just accidentally find them cheap.wclem wrote:A sealed game is neat, and complete ones are cool too, but damn 1000 bucks for any game is stupid. Re: What game/system started you off on collecting?
My first system was a Coleco but I always just went with the current stuff and got rid of my systems as new stuff came out. About 6 months ago my cousin started selling his old N64 & SNES items and realized that he was being stupid. He went back and started buying stuff again and I went along for the ride and added an N64 and got the SNES I had as a kid; my sister had it. Now I'm trying to get a nice collection for all of my systems and just traded for a Saturn; I'm stoked. Now if I can find a Genesis and a Coleco I'll be set for awhile.

Re: What game/system started you off on collecting?
I've actually been into games since the C64. But I didn't really start what I considered a collection until a couple of years ago when I picked up the GB Player for my Cube.
Re: What game/system started you off on collecting?
Believe it or not for me it was the Xbox. The credit the Xbox for getting back into gaming and collecting.
