My Agetec is dead (update- its a saturn stick now)

Post by skate323k137 »

A couple of nights ago, I tossed in a copy of power stone 2. I discovered that the left direction was "stuck down" on my arcade stick. I set it aside, grabbed a different one, and played my game; I didn't want to think about it. After two days of denial, and a couple of hours of dis-assembly and testing tonight, I'm declaring my sanwa modded agetec dead. Everything checks out except the small main agetec circuit board- I had the buttons and joystick all disconnected, and checked the hopefully offending microswitch, but much to my dismay it was fine. With nothing but the circuit board and the five wires which connect to the main cord attached, I still have the left direction stuck down.

I don't know whether to try and seek another agetec circuit board (yeah, right) or just wire it for a different system (blasphemy)... but for now, RIP old friend.

It could be repairable, just find which trace on the board went bad and fix it with some wire and a soldering gun.

ps2 pad+dc adapter. The adapters can be a minor pain, but it'll only make your stick better.

The original buttons were green. I put in a sanwa joystick with a blue balltop, and sanwa buttons. The picture makes them look like a lighter shade of blue than they actually are.

I probably will end up wiring in a PS2 pad to make it adaptable to the DC and many other systems, but I won't feel right doing it.

And I checked/studied the (tiny) circuit board, but to no avail. I can't figure out what's wrong on it, none of the pins are shorted w/each other or anything else that would be easily fixable.

Can you scan the circuit board? Both sides please?

Ouch....if nothing else, buy another stick and swap out all the hardware into the burnt stick and put it on a shelf, then continue to use a nice new sanwa stick.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

I'll get around to scanning the circuit board. it's only about the size of a VMU, and of course has the VMU slot and such. Nothing much user serviceable about it. if it was repairable I f'ed that up, a couple of pins looked like they may have been shorted together by solder on the underside of the board, so i tried to etch that out with a razor likely nixing another trace.

The bitch is, it wasn't a direction or button that didn't work, that would be easily fixable, the problem is "left" was stuck down even with nothing hooked to the PCB.

Unless I see an agetec in really nice shape for a steal of a price, I'll probably go the route of gutting a PS2 controller and getting an extra PS2 to Dreamcast and PS2 to USB adapter. Then I can use this fella for MAME too.

I soldered in a mad cats saturn controller PCB. It works flawlessly. It also works fine with my dreamcast controller adapter that accepts PSX/saturn controllers, and the buttons are mapped just as they were. Now I've got a new saturn stick, and my DC stick back.

That's freaking awesome. I have so many great 2D fighters for Saturn that could use a good stick. The only reason I've never bothered is the beautiful Saturn Pad. Glad to see it worked out for you.
