That's the way it should be, consarnit! The Model 1 Genesis/MegaDrive is the only one capable of a S-Video mod, while the Model 2 Sega CD is simply more reliable. Aside from that, there's actually another piece missing from his Mega CD that keeps it from looking unbalanced. They're not too common though (as they aren't needed).

No you can actually S-Video mod model 2's and even model 3's, it's just a little less common to see.

Didn't it require a metal plate to be screwed on the bottom in order to pull this off, though?
And I've never really seen much difference between S-video and composite, but maybe it matters more when using an LCD screen.

Well, I wasn't even considering the Model 3, since we're talking about the Sega CD here. I'm not aware that the Model 2 can do it without the CXA1145M chip, which isn't common or worth gambling on. Someone could swap the Model 1 chip into the Model 2, but that would just be a cosmetic change (though it would save the Model 1 from the stereo mod).

I'll have to check my setup to see what the metal plate was for... I can't even remember. I have all the pieces for the different setups, whatever the case.

Might have been a TV that needed adjusting. There's a pretty big difference between Composite and S-vid.

There's a metal plate that holds the extender on for a model 1 and then there's teh plate you're supposed to put on the bottom of the Genesis before you plug it into the SCD. Though I only have that second plate for one of my setups and its never been a problem that I've noticed.

It is unbalanced
Basically the model 1 Megadrive is the one I think off when I think of the Megadrive because its what my cousin had, so its the one I bought.
I got the model 2 MegaCD on ebay along with some other stuff. It was described as faulty but there was nothing wrong with it, so I added it to my Megadrive 1.

I have both, but my Shenmue 2 unfortunately doesn't have the cardboard sleave.
