Wow. Did you just get into gaming recently or something? There has been so much news about XBOX 360 failures it's absurd. Not only from news sources but also from many individual XBOX 360 owners. The XBOX 360 will likely become the next Famicom Disk System or Atari Jaguar CD. I love buying many different pieces of video game hardware too but I don't see the point in buying something that is likely to break due to faulty hardware design.SplashChick wrote:Even though the PS3 has similar issues and 360s break much less often than they did.HoboJoe wrote:PS3 handsdown. I completely agree with what people have said before, PS3>Wii>360.
I'll probably never buy a 360 to add to my collection because there's no point in having something you know will break within a couple years.
Sorry, but anyone who chooses one over the other "hands down" reeks of fanboy.

You are kidding, that's nothing. I hate this country.the7k wrote:It wouldn't be a gaming forum without it, right?dsheinem wrote:*Sigh* Another console pissing thread. Merged.
£200 = $320IF the PS3 cost £200 (sub £225 is the tipping point I think) then it's a no brainer.
So, yeah. The PS3, in America, costs $300. It's a no brainer, then.
This is obviously something that depends at least a little bit on where you live.

Apparently you don't keep up on that news much(or care to read my posts fully), since I just said hardware failures aren't as common as they used to be.Inazuma wrote:Wow. Re: Best Next-Gen System
The 'Faulty hardware design' affects the fat PS3 (and probably the Slim, it's too early to tell right now though) as well. It's a problem with the BGA (ball grid array) being soldered to the motherboard with cheap quality lead free solder. When the systems heat up (both 360 and PS3) it causes the solder to flow and then when it sets again it cracks. It's this that is causing the RROD and YLOD in vast majority of cases.
Unfortunately, there's nothing that these companies can really do about it, since it's a requirement to comply with the ROHS directive, which is required by law in all consumer electronic devices. The only way to fix the problem permanently is to use some high quality leaded solder and rework the BGA using an infrared workstation.
It's a problem that affects both the PS3 and 360, the main reason the 360 appears to have higher failure rates is because there is simply more of them to fail. It's not much of a problem now since they have got the heat issue under control with the smaller nm process. However I'm pretty sure if you heat the system beyond it's design specification it will break. Then again, if you cause it to do this then who's at fault, really?
In fact I would put money on it that you would get a ylod on the PS3 slim if you over heated it. That's physics bro.

Re: Best Next-Gen System
*The start of this thread was asking about which is the best next gen system (meaning current gen) which then morphed into PS3 or 360!
I'll just get the Wii out of the way. What a waste of money that was. 99% of people that bought them thought they were ok for a week or so then they haven't been touched since, or the old favourite it comes out when we have a party. What a crap party it must be to have to play games at it!
the Wii's best points - backwards compatible with the Gamecube - In the UK at least BBC Iplayer BUT it looks like VHS quality due to the terrible graphics output (yes I used component leads and set to max resolution of 480p).
Thats it its a poor console and its not innovative either, motion controls are not new! The games are not that great, before someone says you only feel like that due to the graphics - wrong! I play my megadrive, snes, ps1 etc often and their graphics are hardly cutting edge. The most genuine reason to buy a Wii is if somehow your gamecube was stolen by crackheads.
The mrs bought mine I said don't bother but she did anyway. theres no way I would have bought it for myself.
The 360 was my first current gen console, got an elite, no issues with it other than an accident when it was 12 days old. There are annoyances with it but its not a bad console. I or anyone I know actually has ever had the RROD on their consoles. Also more people own the 360 than the PS3 so thats something to think about if you like to play with friends etc.
From playing versions of multiplatform games the 360 version seems better.
Also the orange box unplayable on a console? Get a grip its an excellent game on the 360/ps3!
the main issue is over here as Niode said cost, the 360 is half the price of the ps3. His price of a console at £249.99 is for the 120GB console, the 250GB console is £285
Games for PS3 can be cheap, very cheap but thats because they are crap games. Decent stuff is generally the same price or cheaper on the 360 to the PS3.
The PS3 is great I need to pick up a slim but whether or not I would chose it if I could only pick 1 console well, tbh, I would go 360. Otherwise just get all 3.

I now have a 360 and a PS3 and i had a Wii. I can honostly say that the 360 has the best exclusive games, online gaming, and the achievements are far superior than PS3 trophies. I get all my games for 360 when I have the choice. PS3 is just for exclusives.

Considering the Wii has more than 1% of the vote here it looks like you're wrong.

This is what I do too. It's also because, let's face it, most of my friends are on XBL and not PSN. XBLA is also far superior to PSN when it comes to selection as well.darthmunky wrote:I now have a 360 and a PS3 and i had a Wii.
