Oh damn, its been 7 or 8 years since I played it. I tend to explore nooks and crannies even in FPS games and go kinda slow compared to most people, but maybe 20-ish hours? Since its not an RPG, it should definitely be shorter than SC.Flak Beard wrote:About how long would you say the game is? Obviously the 3D graphics will be very dated, but heck, they were when I played it too. But it is fun and worth playing.

Re: The once in a lifetime SUPER AWESOME MEGA DEAL at GOG!
Anyone know why the GoG system requirements are listed as being a lot higher than the original releases of the games?
For instance on Judge Dredd...
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/judge_dr ... d_vs_death
GoG has them as:
1.8 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM (1 GB recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), 4GB HDD, Mouse, Keyboard.
But Wikipedia says the game is:
Pentium III or Athlon 700 MHz processor, 128 MB of RAM, 1.3 GB of hard drive space, 32 MB DirectX 9-compatible graphics card, DirectX 9-compatible 16-bit sound card
My machine should be able to run it according to the Wiki specs, but not the GoG ones since my proc is only 1.2 GHz.

GOG often applies the updated patches to games, and if it's old enough that it once needed DOS, then you'll have to be able to run DOS Box. Basically, they optimize the games to work well on newer systems running XP or Vista. I'm not sure if that's why there is the discrepency, but that would be my guess.

So it is probably a safe bet the GoG version won't run on my machine then?

Hmmm... Blake Stone has almost the same requirements as Judge Dredd.

Even with a DOSBox layer, it shouldn't be that high. Something's not right here, perhaps GoG is just listing them high as a safety net for themselves?

Don't discount the Dosbox layer. It's translating DOS graphical commands into Windows graphical commands, not to mention emulating processor speeds and esoteric sound cards. Emulation is very expensive; we're just used to emulating incredibly low-spec machines. The SNES runs at 22 MHz, but it requires a much faster machine to be at a playable framerate.

Flak what is your processor?
Speed is not the only consideration here. I mean my Pentium 4 will run at 3.1 ghz, but my 2.6ghz Q6600 (quadcore) will smoke it even on a single core. Actually my 1.6ghz atom 330 is about the same speed.

Well my desktop is over seven years old at this point, since I haven't really been into PC games since then. It basically serves as a means to surf the net, burn discs, work in Open Office, emulation, etc. Never had a reason to upgrade honestly.fastbilly1 wrote:Flak what is your processor?

Anyway, here goes...
AMD Sempron 1.2 GHz
1GB DDR 266
GeForce 4 MX-440 SE 128MB
Yep, old and dated. Although, I was hoping it'd be up to the task to run many of the GoG titles.

Ah a sempron. Well you are kinda in luck. I have a similarly built box that is currently OS less (worse GPU and a different but comparable processor). Ill try to throw xp pro on there tonight and see what all it can run.
