why Racketboy?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

why Racketboy?

Post by noiseredux »

my wife asked why a retro video game site is called Racketboy. And I responded, "............... I... don't... know?" So why is it? Is there some reference that I'm not aware of?

Good question. I've always wondered myself. I think it's a handle that he used for awhile on the internet forums based on content on segaxtreme that I think predated this site.

I believe it has something to do with his last name sounding like "racket", and that "Racketboy" is his nickname in real life.

she really does try, which is very nice. I mean, gaming is really not her thing for the most part. She had a Colecovision and a NES when she was young, and loved both. But only had a small handful of games. So she really doesn't have the same big nostalgic connection that I do. But she's watched a couple of documentaries with me about video game history. And the other day she even asked me which came first: Odyssey, Intellevision or 2600!

I believe the about page explains this, but from memory:
Rackets real name is Nick and his last name is difficult to pronounce when read. So in college is roommates miss pronounced it as Racket, and he has been called Racket since. He added boy to the end so it sounded cool (I also think he did it so that he wouldnt run into anyone else with the same username, but thats just me).

When I first came across a member named "racketboy" on the old SegaXtreme forums, I thought that maybe the name had something to do with the (FUCKIN' AWESOME) Springsteen song "Atlantic City" - like maybe he was from NJ.

"Down on the boardwalk they're gettin' ready for a fight...gonna see what them racket boys can do"
