I've got to say this would make a pretty awesome color scheme for a game room.

I went with the safe "real estate beige" for my basement. "Biscuit" in the Sherwin Williams catalog to be exact. It keeps the lower level looking bright, and it wasn't a funky color that I'd have to redo before selling the house.

Another benefit to lame neutral colors is that you don't really have to worry about furniture clashing. My bookshelves, wall shelves, and trim work are all an espresso finish which compliments the lighter walls.

A friend of mine started this side-business lately. Perhaps there's some inspiration there (not many photos up yet, but it's slowly building):

Some other suggestions: you don't have to go with painted walls at all. You can get large prints of whatever you like (game posters, pictures of consoles or arcades, etc) and use them as a sort of wallpaper.

There are plenty of places in the US (not in AU, sadly) that sell arcade and gamesroom carpets as well. Many of them designed to illuminate certain parts (stars, space ships, and other themed elements) under black lights.

If you do go with paint, remember that dark colours will create the illusion of a smaller space. If you space is limited, lighter colours will help it to feel bigger, although dark colours do feel cool (temperature and style wise).

Also, if you want a more dynamic room, lights are a good way to achieve that. Here's my gameroom:

I use very bland colours (white ceiling, light blue walls) and use coloured rope lights (LED based, so they don't get hot) as a way to add colour to the room. I currently have blue and red, and if I don't like one colour can simply turn it off, or go buy more (green and purple are both available in the same style).
