Re: Personal GoTY?
In terms of something that I played for the first time in 2009, my game of the year would definitely be Jet Set Radio Future. I bought an original Xbox just for it and it was worth it.
I also played Pikmin 2 for the first time and it sticks in my memory as well.
Apart from them, I finished Donkey Kong 64, Rogue Squadron and Link's Awakening - all of which I'd played before, but never properly. They also deserve a mention.
On the other hand, my worst game of the year was probably Hybrid Heaven!

I loved Mega Man 9 and the Rebirth Series. I'm about to download Bionic Commando Rearmed.

puzzle fighter never made sense to me. It is like poyo pop but not i guess? I could never really figure it out and i would just get crushed.
FFTA is great, but the original on the ps1 is king imho. I stopped playing near the end of the game because the judges kind of ruined it for me. A couple rules is one thing, but when they start throwing out penalties for 4 or 5 different types of commands I start to lose interest.
Puzzle Figher is waaay better than Poyo Pop. It's so great. I like FFTA more than the PS1 version because it works really well as a portable game.

I played a lot of old games this past year. But the one new one I enjoyed immensly was Infamous.
Ooh, and turns out Amon Tobin worked on the soundtrack. Now if it only got a proper release like the Chaos Theory soundtrack instead of just itunes. Blargle.

Jumping flash! i was bored as hell and was in one of my strange game moods at the time (was playing katamari games around then too). i had some extra money for the psn store and nothing really stood out as awesome in my price range at the time. so i went with that game thinking it would of been lame....man was i wrong! only thing i had against it was it's short length.

Portal.
Although, nobody seems to think it's funny these days when I run around giggling and shouting "The cake is a lie! The cake is a lie!" I guess that's the downside of getting to games a little later than everyone else.

09 GOTY for me:
Street Fighter IV; easily one of the best fighting games every for me and is much more accessible than III (I did like III but this one trumps it for me).
Prototype; quite possibly one of the funnest new titles I've played in a long time.
Retro/New to 09 GOTY for me:
Jet Grind Radio; I was psyched to find this at my local retro shop, it is amazing.
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus; I got back into this series again and I'm loving this one the most.
King of Fighters XI; probably my favorite KOF game, though I wish May Lee was in it, still I never realized how AWESOME Blue Mary was.
Typing of the Dead; easily the most creative game I've ever played, any game where I can blow up a zombie by typing the word "boob" is awesome.
Disappointments:
BlazBlue; I'm sorry on this one to those that like it, though it made a terrific first impression I just found myself getting more and more frustrated every time I'd play it. Though I have to thank it since it made me rediscover Guilty Gear and remember how much I love that series.
Tekken 6; I liked this series and I wanted to play this game so badly...but I just couldn't stand it and I honestly hate everything in this game.
