Will Saturn Model 1 Guts Fit Inside A Model 2 Case?
Will Saturn Model 1 Guts Fit Inside A Model 2 Case?
I have a Saturn Model 1 (oval buttons) that has broken plastic where the screws go. It works great but I can't screw it together. I have the chance to pick up a broken Model 2 (round buttons) and I was wondering if I could just swap out the insides of the oval Saturn and drop them in the round Saturn?

I think it would be hit or miss. If the boards don't fit, you could make them fit, if you were so inclined.

I think I might just be better off trying to find a way to secure this one back together. 3 of the 5 screw mounts are broken. I don't know what happened to it but it still works like a dream.

Yeah, it's just cheap plastic. The screw holes on one of my SNES consoles are really weak, I'm afraid if the next time I open the console up they might break.
Well, I just thought of one idea...
Did the screw holes break off or just crack? You could try filling them will glue (kinda like filling wood with wood filler). When you rethread the (glued) holes, it might be hard to do it by hand (depending on the glue you used). So if you use a power drill make sure it's on a low torque setting as to not damage the plastic and further. And make sure the glue is completely dry before you screw into it. You don't want the glue to set to the screw, you just want it to repair the screw holes.

I'd definitely do the above. Or get some wood filler, you can use it on plastic. Then you can sort of make the bits that have broken off again. Use sandpaper to smooth it off when it's dry. Then use some self tapping screws that are the same length/guage to make your screw holes. Of course if you have a good drill and a steady hand you could do the holes quicker, plus it's easier on the old wrist
.
If you're in a pinch and live with a woman, then you can make bondo-lite (well that's what I call it anyway) by soaking plastic in acetone. This does rely on your having a bit of spare plastic... Once you have your acetone soaked plastic, you can just follow the same process as above.
Good luck!
