There is a rason why there are 100 mill PS2s out there, everyone has to buy at least three since they break. I think it's just genius for marketing...the fact the ppl DO keep buying them show that the model works. While I worked at Babbages, I had a friend who went through 7 PS1's...I think he has had three PS2's so far.
My Sony TV's still work...so maybe it's just their laser department?
PS2's and DRE's .. a sign of things to come?

i bought my ps2 broken took it apart reassembled it and it magically worked
most dre's are from dirty lenses
if you open the dvd drive and take the top with teh lil white spiny thing and get it with some computer duster chances are it will jump right back into action
on a second though tho ive had 2 minidisk players and a cd walkman that all died right out of waranty and my old sony stinatron dosent shut all teh way off i have to unplug it to sleep because of teh humming noise it makes when its off
