Neo Myth N64.

Post by Hatta »

Check it out, the Neo Myth N64 has arrived. It looks like it has a lot of potential. It's already able to run any N64 game and back up saves, we'll have to wait a bit until we get Neo2SD support. I got a Neo Myth MD pretty early on, and have been amazed with the pace of development on the thing. I can't wait to get my hands on this one.

BTW, if you're a member of UG check the B/S/T forum there and maybe save a bit of money on one of these.

Thing is- N64 games arn't that expensive. You could pretty much buy everything you wanted for the system around the same price as this cart.

unless it played DD games. Which... as far as i could tell... it can't.

Lets break it down.
Prices for N64 complete in box games

perfect dark 10.00
Goldeneye 20.00
Resident evil 2 25.00
Zelda 64 - 20.00
Majora's mask- 30.00
Mario 64 15.00
Mario Kart 30.00
Mario party 15.00
Super Smash Bros 50.00
Paper Mario 40.00
Conker's Bad Fur Day 40.00
Star Fox 64 18.00
Donkey Kong 64 20.00
Banjo-Kazooie 20.00

GRAND TOTAL 353

Personally- i would rather spend the extra cash to get the games complete in box. 150 sounds like a lot, but if you wanted to you could also go loose carts and probably save a bunch of money.

And personally- if i'm going to play smash brothers, i'm playing it on my wii. And if i'm going to play paper mario, i found the n64 one really boring. Not to say that you do, just me personally. My ideal N64 collection costs 263 bucks.

I think this cool. I agree it is over priced. The N64 originals will only become more expensive and this cart will only get cheaper.

I think the price is fair, maybe a little higher than I would like it. From what I read, it isn't easy building a N64 flash cart. Who knows how many hundreds or even thousands of dollars the creator has invested in it. Besides, the NES and SNES flash carts on Retro Zone are $130, this isn't that far off.

Original game carts are very cheap for the N64 now, negates the reason for the alternative.

Yeah, it's not a cheap purchase, but it's bound to be a cool piece of hardware none the less. I think you missed a few great N64 games. How about

Sin & Punishment
Mischief Makers
Robotron 64
F Zero X
Mario Golf
Ogre Battle 64
Harvest Moon 64
Kirby 64

Still, you have a point. You could probably get all the essential N64 games for around $200 if you're not interested in boxes. But what about the less essential games? There's some great fun to be had with these things popping in games that you wouldn't play otherwise and finding out what's good about them, or laughing at what's awful. You could do that with emulators of course, but it's just not the same.

Yeah, it's not for everyone. And it is pushing the limit on price. But there's a type of gamer who likes this kind of thing more than owning a pile of carts. Now we have another option.

i did miss those guys. Good games all. But still- my point is that at about a hundred bucks it would be something to consider. 200? no way.

And as far as less essential games go- you can get a huge lot of them off ebay for probably 20 bucks. :) heh. Fuck- i have a bunch and i don't even like the n64.

nickfil, I came to the same conclusion that you did. At one point, I was looking at the Bung V64 & V64JR which were around $300+. With my huge backlog of games for the cube, ps1, ps2, dreamcast, etc...I wasn't ever going to get around to playing them all. So I just bought a big N64 lot and all of the classics.

150 dollars? Goddamn, I would rather save that money, and buy a new system! Like everyone else said, N64 games are dirt cheap, and for 150, you could buy a USB hub, 4 USB to N64 adapters, and 4 controllers, and boom, the exact same thing.

Now I am getting a little topic, but I prefer having the original carts anyway.

Well then you wont be happy to hear you got the price wrong, it's actually $200! lol.

A flash cart for the 64 would be great for a translated game like Sin and Punishment because there's almost 0 chance of building a repro for it like you could for a SNES or NES game. Although, I'm not sure how many worthy JPN only N64 there are, and how many of them have been translated. Probably not nearly as many as the NES or SNES. Are there any good protos or unreleased games for it? They would be a good candidate for the flash cart too.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, a flash cart is more needed on a console like the NES or SNES where there's tons of translated and unreleased games.
