Has there at any point in time been a truly GOOD Fan-Fic?

Has there at any point in time been a truly GOOD Fan-Fic?

Post by Original_Name »

They're the fully-deserved butt-end of countless jokes on the internet: those asinine plots and superfluous characters crafted by only the least capable of writers. From ill-conceived Sonic the Hedgehog-inspired alter-egos to Final Fantasy side-story atrocities, and all the insufferable garbage inbetween, there's just so much to snicker at! But has anyone ever read a fan-fiction and thought, "Y'know, this is even better than the storyline the creators imagined"? Surely amongst all that drivel there must have been one or two proverbial diamonds glistening in the gargantuan pile of feces.

Any fan fic with Princess Leia chained up in a metal bikini is a good fan fic.

No crossover fic is good. I don't care what it is; it has automatically broken the suck-o-meter.

I've read a few pretty good fanfics for a couple of fandoms on Fanfiction.net, mostly ones that are relatively unknown and don't get a lot of exposure. There are a few for more popular fandoms, but the majority of it is garbage. I actually tried writing a fanfic several years ago, but the story ended up being reworked into an original story that I'm working on now, mostly because I felt the ideas I came up with are interesting enough not to be wasted on a medium that's never going to be taken seriously.

Nah.

Mary Sues everywhere.

I wrote a couple that I thought were good, but I am biased. No Mary Sues, just the characters from the respective franchises and a few original creations that were expendable bad guys. No slash fics, no lemon warnings or anything of that nature. Just crossovers and alternate universe stories.

I had them online, but they were wiped out when Geocities shut down.

This:

When a fanfiction gets so big, complicated, and well made that the official Voice Actors of the American Dub to voice their own animated cut-scenes for FREE then it's something to take note of.

I've read it and liked it a bit, nut then again it's not truly canon so I have to stay neutral in my opinion on it.

For Star Trek or Babylon 5 fans, Star Wreck is very good. Well done fan story combining both universes in an unlikely plot but great none the less.
