Front Mission 5 translation patch is out!

Post by weasels »

before i start i realize i started a similar post a long time ago. here is the link if any mod feels it should be combined with this thread: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 25&t=14066

boys and girls it's out and better than ever. these guys have had almost zero experience in rom hacking and it's amazing how fast they finished this. fast zero experience usually means the quality is bad right? well in this case it's just as good maybe even better than what square-enix would of done. and this is the truth. i have followed many translations before and this is a top notch project. the only missing translation is the movie when you turn on the game and they have made a translated video posted on youtube to supplement that. i can attest that this game is a lot better than 4, maybe not as good as 3, but better than 4. i would "advise" (but i can't force you too, of course) all of you that are interested to actually import a copy since the team doesn't want any....unwanted attention from SE...since they are moving on to translate two of the other Front mission games that never was localized hear, the infamous Front mission 2, and Front mission alternative!

here is a trailer for the translation:

here is the main site. you can get the patch here as well as a translated manual, cd cover scans, game case scans, etc.: http://www.frontmission.info/

here is how to patch it and what tool you should use to do so: http://opticalgarbage.com/misc/

Awesome news. I tried out an older version of the patch a while back, can't wait to get stuck in... might have to load up and finish 3 first!

Damn, I just read they're working on a translation of the World Historica tome. I've had that pdf sitting on my HDD for ages, looks awesome, but there's so much reading in it.

Very cool indeed. If I wanted to play this on my Slim PS2 how would I go about doing so?

I play my imports and patched games using swapmagic, but I have a fat PS2. It's available for slim, but I'm unsure of the process.http://www.swapmagic3.com/

Looks like I just need to replace my Slim's disc cover with a flip top. Let's give it a shot.

you could also get a softmodded memory card. there are several ways of doing so and if you know anyone with a mod-chip and the know-how, then it could be done in a flash. or you could get a mod-chip.

are you trolling or something? no but thats cool. i know a few that think that as well, but most of them have never played any of the others...i find 4 boring as hell the characters (except Darril) and gameplay are extremely boring. they also took out the many features that i came to enjoy in three. i realize that 4 takes place before 3 but still the link system was just not refined enough, nor exciting enough for it to outweigh the problems. i still play it though, since i don't hate it to an absolute...it's just the worst in the series imo...then agian i havn't played alternative yet and i hear some bad things about that.

I've been wanting to get into the series for a while now, would FM5 be as good as any place to start? I was planning on starting with FM3, but also FM4 can be had for $2.99 at my local GameStop. Which FM game would be best for a newcomer to the series?

Tell me, do any of them allow mid-battle saving?
