Games that left lasting impressions on you.

Post by Veno »

Surprisingly, when I searched this up, I found no other threads like this.

Well, I just beat Bioshock for the first time today(don't ask why), and I got the good ending.
It was short, happy, and emotional, for me at least.
Even if it ended happily, I feel really sad. You know, that moved feeling you get in your chest after you've seen a really sad movie or played a really sad game.

I'd name more, but I just needed to get my feelings of Bioshock out of my chest. Love that game, so much. And the good ending is one of my favorite endings to any video game. People have said the other two endings aren't as good.

There's a few that come to mind. I guess I'll try and keep these spoiler free

Max Payne 2-I didn't know it had two endings when I first played it. I got the bad ending and was really sad as I thought it was the game's only ending.

Ico-The relationship between Ico and Yorda is so effectively done and I felt a real protective urge towards her as I played the game. The first time I lost her and got a game over I felt genuinely bad. Of course, the ending is also very emotional

Pikmin 2/Viva Pinata-These are the only games I know of that have made me feel emotionally connected to animals in a video game. I always felt genuinely bad any time I lost a Pikmin or a pinata in those games.

Metal Gear Solid 3-I hated a lot of things about the game, but the final act was epic and the ending were pretty moving.

Just about every Bioware game since KOTOR has emotionally affected me. And it's not just due to the quality of the story telling, but the fact that you are directly involved in so many character's fates. You don't WATCH a story in a Bioware game, you participate in it.

Okami-You feel something for every character in this game, even the the animals you come across. Then ending is moving too, at least the uncut PS2 one

Super Mario Bros.: This is the first game I ever played in my life and was literally one of the most influential moments in my life. I've never looked back since.

Super Mario 64: The first game I ever played in 3D. At the time it wasn't the graphics that wowed me, but how much freedom I was given to play and shape my gameplay experience at will and it's stuck with me as one of the most pivotal games I've played ever since.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I live close to BioWare Edmonton, and as hard as I tried, it is near impossible to get into the Dumpsters in the back (I KNOW THERE ARE GAMES WAITING TO BE LEAKED IN THERE!!)

Jet set Radio Future was pretty cool, I think it had an effect on me

Final Fantasy 3 - I completely lost myself in that game. It's the first game where I actually felt any kind of connection to the characters (except umaro; they should have left that dude out).

Shadow of the Colossus - I was disappointed when i realized that there were no regular badguys in the game -until i killed the first Colossus! The experience of taking down one of those guys is something i will never forget.

Dead Space - It scared the crap out of me.

Donkey Kong Country 1-3, actually. It's really just when I think about the games. The brier levels in the 2nd one always get me.

The first Metal Gear Solid was awesome as well. I especially enjoy the line when Ocelot says "We can launch anytime", because I remember thinking "Oh crap! They can launch anytime!" One of the few game stories I really got into.

Another vote for FFIII(VI) as well, that game really drew me in.

Symphony of the Night also drew me in. Not really from the story (especially not the cutscenes) but more of just running through the castle and seeing everything. The first time I found out that there was an inverted castle it blew my mind.

It's good there's no limit on how much you can bigup particular games...

Deus Ex - I was totally busted by the scene in the 747 or whatever having played this game for the first time shortly after 9/11 and gone absolutely postal and methodically wiped out all of the terrorists in the first few chapters... I then went on to be almost entirely non-lethal for the rest of the game until I came across the mech-soldiers. Awesome.

System Shock 2 & Alien Versus Predator Gold for scare factor as well...
