Rarest Dvd or Movie You Own
I know we have threads for the rarest games we own, but I'm curious as to people's dvd collections, I know I have made threads about Criterion dvds and stuff, but I'm curious as to the rarest dvds people have in their collections...feel free to post pics of your dvd collections as well
my rarest would be Rebecca Criterion, Straw Dogs Criterion, Bad Taste, Cemetery Man, Nightmares, and Meet the Feebles

I'm personally interested in hearing about what rare Laserdiscs people have... I've been wanting to get into that for a while but lacking local supply.

Not too rare, but I own all the boxsets of Gatchaman--for some reason I had trouble tracking box 6 and 7 down.
It's the only anime I own (not really into the hobby as a whole), pretty much bought it all cuz of I watched G-Force: Guardians of Space as a kid growing up in the 1990's on Cartoon Network. Yay for nostalgia!

Is there such a thing as a rare DVD?
I'm not trying to be a smart-alec. I know there are rare films, usually still on film, but haven't heard of a rare DVD.

I was thinking the same thing.Luke wrote:Is there such a thing as a rare DVD?

I've got some double-sided Jackie Chan DVDs (one movie per side) from way early in his film career that I've never seen anywhere else. They were a limited order in the store I bought them from for Christmas a good few years back, and I've never seen them online or in store ever again. But still, being a DVD I'm not sure if it's "rare" just because I haven't spotted it elsewhere.

Limited releases, licensing and low print runs can make for rare DVD's just like there are rare Books and games etc....Luke wrote:Is there such a thing as a rare DVD?

One also has to be careful not to fall into the "expensive=rare" trap. There are things that are OOP because the company went belly up or the license was lost, but they still sold a fair number of copies while in print. If you want to get technical, many of the promo anime DVDs I have (or have had and got rid of) are rare simply because there weren't that many made and printed that way versus the normal retail versions. Even most 'limited edition' versions of things have 10s of thousands of copies printed, which isn't rare IMHO.

Re: Rarest Dvd or Movie You Own
Now a days saying anything is rare is kind of weird term because of the internet, I guess for me the things I consider rare of mine are the ones that took me a while to find in the wild...and are also on the more expensive side, and certain versions of movies are also certainly rare, like the 1998 pressing of Little Shop of Horrors with the alternate ending, as well as the PG rated Swamp Thing...Hobie-wan wrote:One also has to be careful not to fall into the "expensive=rare" trap.
