Hello, I just got a ps3 for christmas and just hooked it up. Everything is going smoothly, but however now my dad complains that his laptop keeps getting disconnected because a ps3 wifi access point appears and somehow kicks him off.
I looked into this a bit, but the only thing I could find on the subject is having to deal with the PSP remote access feature, which has always been turned off. What else could this be caused by, and how can I disable my ps3 from transmitting as an access point if this is the case?
Thanks in advance.

Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim
Re: PS3 creating a wireless access point?
Go into your settings and disable the option for Media Servers. On some networks when the ps3 looks for a media server it causes a disconnect on the other connections. This also happens with wireless networks too.
Boy I tell you what, are those some god dang video games?
Re: PS3 creating a wireless access point?
Thanks for the reply, but that option has also been disabled.

Re: PS3 creating a wireless access point?
Is you dad's laptop set to a static IP that the PS3 has already taken and they're fighting over it? I can't remember if the PS3 even had a setting for auto/static IP or not, but I've seen that happen with other PCs that were fighting over the same address.

Good catch, I'll look into that.. I forgot to check that out!Hobie-wan wrote:Is you dad's laptop set to a static IP that the PS3 has already taken and they're fighting over it? The curious thing is that A PS3 named wifi access point is even showing up at all in the list of hotspot connections, and is getting slightly less signal strength than the main router I'm using.

Re: PS3 creating a wireless access point?
I think the thing to do now then is to see if the access point shows up when then PS3 is switched off. If the hotspot is still there then you know it's not the PS3 that's at fault.
It could be that there's somebody with an access point with the SSID 'PS3' that has no security, Windows Zero Config will try to connect to these first (If that is what your dad is using to connect wirelessly) He should set up a default profile specifically for your network then it should connect to just that and no others.
Just out of interest what router are you using?

Re: PS3 creating a wireless access point?
Sorry for the late reply
We have AT&T U-verse so the box we have is labled 2Wire, which is what the network's SSID is automatically labeled as. WE changed the channel and made sure my sister's ps3 isn't broadcasting, and it has been okay since.
I think her ps3 was the problem in this case because she had it enabled to link up to a psp even when the ps3 is turned off, and I think they were on the same channel as the router was broadcasting. All of this and I think that his computer was set to connect to the strongest wireless signal, even though he claims it wasn't (rolls eyes)
I appreciate everyone's input in this, thank you!
