what's your collection breakdown like?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

what's your collection breakdown like?

Post by aaron »

another thread got me thinking. i'm curious as to what you guys try to collect and what your parameters are for each portion of your collection. i'll start! in order of importance...

- i have a saturn (us system, modded, region modded), i collect japanese originals and will burn backups as necessary, i typically play them instead of originals. i'll also typically buy the japanese release and burn the localized one so i can play it effectively (especially in the case of dragon force, albert odyssey, etc)

i have a dreamcast and i really only buy games for it i know i'll play. i don't burn many games for it but i'm way into the homebrew and hacks that are available. i have custom cases made for each one (just need to print them and put them together, haha)

i have an xbox 360, i only have a few games and try to keep it that way. i download more than i purchase (via XBL, not pirating, i don't have my console modded)

i have an n64 and a snes, which i only gather cart-only games for. these games are for playing, mostly with my girlfriend and my son (as cart-based systems are MUCH more conducive to 4-year olds than disc--based systems).

i used to have a ps2, but it just got stolen. i have a few choice games for that console though so i'll be buying another one eventually. i'd like to get a HD for it or perhaps a memor32 card or something.

i have a gunstar heroes collection that isn't complete. need the game gear version and the ps2 treasure box, then working on the other regions for the first game and gunstar super heroes.

i'm also looking to get a gamecube eventually to get a few games for, and i'd like to get a game boy player and a hori snes-style pad to play some of the RPGs and shmups for the greatest handheld ever (sword of mana, the FF remakes, Golden Sun, Mother 3, Astro Boy, Iridion II, etc). i'll probably only be concerned with cart-only games.

everything else i emulate, but i don't like full sets. i like to have a neat, tidy list of quality games. i'll also buy a few ps1 games and play them on my laptop from time to time (or my ps2, but that's kinda hard to do now since it's gone).

so how about YOU?

This is how my collection breaks down. The first list is stuff that's already hooked up to my TV, then the second list is stuff that I'm storing in tupperware boxes...

Stuff that's set up:
Playstation 2 with 500 GB Hard Drive - This is my system of choice; if a 6th gen game is multiplatform and appears on PS2, that's the version I'm getting. Because of backwards compatibility, I'm also building a collection of PS1 RPGs.

Gamecube with GB Player - Small library. It's mostly Nintendo IP, and I'm probably going to put this in storage when I finish the Nintendo games.

Dreamcast - Yeah, this hasn't been getting as much play as it should. In my idle moments, I've considered selling it off, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Neo Geo AES - This fucking thing has become my white whale. I've got an extremely meager collection of 4 games, but that's probably going to change soon.

Stuff that's boxed away:
Original Xbox - This just has a shitload of emulators on it. If the Dreamcast gets boxed, this is taking its place. I really haven't even ventured into the original Xbox library.

SNES & Toploader NES - This stuff is around for mostly sentimental reasons.

Saturn - I'm probably going to get rid of this, because the Neo Geo is now the ridiculously expensive system for which I'm collecting.

I read about games on different websites all the time, so when I see something I might like I make a mental note and eventually buy it if I see it for super cheap. Other than that, if I see something weird or rare that I've never seen before, and its not crazy expensive, I'll pick it up. Case in point.

I have hooked up to my TV:
Wii bought it a couple months ago. I have NSMBW, Metal Slug, Dokopon Kingdom, HotD overkill, HotD 2&3, and I downloaded MM9 & Pokemon Rumble. And a handful of GC games (with a Wavebird thanks JP1).
Sega Saturn w/ Action Replay Plus (both boxed) this is my pride in joy. I have two multitaps (both , 13 controllers, 12 Cased games(US), 11 Cased games (JP), a CD case full of disc only games.
PS2 slim white mostly play PS1 games on it.
N64 that I have for multiplayer games like SMB, MK 64, and Golden Eye.

Then in my closet I have DC (2 games was going to make back ups but I am lazy and now want originals), Sega Genesis, SNES, and NES (works when it wants to).

I have a Playstation (1):
This is the pride in joy of my collection. Its what I grew up with. Its the console which I have and will have the most games for. I am only obtaining complete copies for this console.

I have a Dreamcast:
Only collecting complete copies for this console. I got mine a little under a year ago.

I have a Saturn:
I just got it for Christmas. I am going to mod it shortly. This is the one console I have justified not getting legit copies for.

I have a GBA/GBC/GB:
I could care less about getting the boxes and manuals for these games. I loves me some Gameboy games. Om nom nom.

I have a Nintendo 64:
I also only have like, 6 games for it. I got the console a few months ago. I am only getting cartridge's. No boxes or manuals.

I have a Sega Genesis:
Its a very sad collection of Genesis games. I love it though! Its awesome as hell.

I have a Sega CD:
Not working. An easy fix that I haven't gotten around to.

I have a Gamecube:
I love it. It's been collecting quite a bit of dust, but I love it.

Family owned: Wii, PS3, SNES:
They're family owned. I have my own personal games for these consoles, but the consoles themselves are not mine.

I have a DS:
and a flash cart.

Once I graduate high school, go to college and then get a fulltime job and be all grown-upey and stuff, I'll have a much much bigger collection. If you for some reason want to see what games I have, then my Backloggery profile is accessible in my sig.
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

PS2, PS3, 360, and Saturn are hooked up to my TV.
Super Famicom and AV Famicom are hooked up to my "crappy" TV

I play PS3 the most out of all of them, with the Saturn in 2nd place.

I have a PSP and a DSi that never leave my bathroom. I just play them on the crapper.
I have another PSP in my car for the times I have to wait for something, and a DS Lite that I use for a kanji dictionary. I have a Gameboy Light by my bed for casual play to put me to sleep.

That's it.

I have treasures in storage that I want to get around to hooking up one day. We'll see.

I never have more than one system hooked up at once. I used to, but that was years ago. These days, I primarily alternate between my SNES (w/ Super 8/TriStar converter for playing NES/Famicom games), Genesis (w/ Power Base Converter) and PS2. I have a Dreamcast that I have a bunch of emulators for, but not many original games so I don't use it very often.
