Article On Using Games To Study Japanese

Post by hashiriya1 »

I somewhat agree with this article as Japanese games have improved my Japanese, but I relied mostly on movies and novels to increase my Japanese proficiency. Anyway, if you are studying Japanese, give it a read.

kinda cool. it's an interesting take on the stigmas associated with video games and gaming in general.

Yeah, you definitely see a lot of vocabulary you wouldn't see in a textbook, or even in regular conversation.

But this part:

This is ironic, as nobody calls for banning books when some nut job mails letter bombs after reading “The Anarchist’s Cookbook” or “Mein Kampf.” With few exceptions, reading books is taken as an unquestionable virtue to be endlessly encouraged.

Uhh, pretty sure people call for banning books all the time and can be ravenous and ridiculous about it. I know the parents in my school district were.

Yeah, people do call for burning books, but it seems more general with games. If one game supposedly inspires a shooting, people call for burning all games, not that one in particular.
