is anyone else totally overextended their game buying this Christmas season?
between actual christmas, Gamestop's weekend sale, Hollywood video's sale, and (the major one) steam holiday sale... I've gotten probalby more games in the last 4 days than i have all year.
I barely barely use my pc for gaming. I have to duel boot it back to windows, so I'm rarely feeling like that is something i want to do vs just popping in a disc on my 360, or a cartridge on my snes or something like that. However, I just picked up day of defeat for 3 bucks. Now... I have never thought i wanted to play it at all. Never even thought about it. BUT IT WAS SO DAMN CHEAP! I picked up the id pack on steam (22 games), torchlight, day of defeat, and stalker so far. I'm still checking back. Waiting for it to refresh for today.
Then i picked up about 5 games from hollywood and gamestop. Got about 3 more from christmas.
On top of all this, i still haven't gotten into GAMES I BOUGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS STARTED!
totally overextended. In a good way, but still. Christmas was a frenzy this year. I don't need to buy any games for a long while.
Anyone else?

Re: totally overextended game buying
Agreed.
Steam Purchases: Oddworld Pack, Red Faction Guerilla, Torchlight, Stalker, Stalker Clear Sky, Mirrors Edge, SW: KOTOR, Plus still waiting on the refresh for today.
GOG.com Purchases: Earthworm Jim 1 & 2, MDK, MDK2, Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics.
Plus my wife bought me Scene It on the 360 for Christmas.
All of that only cost me: $57 (not including Scene It).
So not a bad haul for that little bit of cash.

that is the problem for me. I'm thinking more of money spent rather than time devoted. I've spent about 70 bucks total.Frag Mortuus wrote:So not a bad haul for that little bit of cash.
*edit* I totally forgot to check GOG too. fuck. I need a dedicated PC to play this stuff.

like a sucker, just bought killing floor.
Re: totally overextended game buying
I know I have. I bought myself Borderlands for the 360. Then I bought about 50 360, PS2, Xbox, PS3 games from my brother since he didn't want them anymore. That ran me around $120. Not to mention all of the games I have bought off of Ebay the past few weeks.

I splurged *before* Christmas
I bought Guitar Hero WT, 5, Lego Rock Band, BioShock ($4!!), WET, Soul Calibur 4 ($10!), Castle of Shikigami 3 all in the week or three before Christmas. Most of them were lightning deals at Amazon, though, so good prices.
After Christmas I was all set to overextend on games, but it didn't work out. I wanted to get Mario Kart Wii and Punch-out Wii and whatever else I could find on Amazon, but I was distressed at what I found. Mario Kart Wii was $70!!!! That's with one wheel, but still, it retails for $49.99. I've been to see if it will go down, not way up! Plus, the Cammy figurine I was drooling over was out of stock too. What's a gamer to do? Wait and buy them later, hehe. My $400 in Christmas money will get spent on games, I swear!
Still ... It was inevitable that I wouldn't buy anything so soon after Christmas. My fortune cookie said I was going to make sound financial decisions.

Me, too. There were a lot of buy 1/get 1 type sales at big box stores this fall, too, and I jumped on that. I actually for the first time ever got out some paper and made a list of my backlog. With the stuff I've just gotten on the XBL holiday deals, I'm up to about 40 now. And that doesn't include many, many retro games I bought mostly for collection and haven't touched hardly at all.
I'm was thinking about making an official 2010 backlog thread.

I bought 2 metric buttloads of games between Steam, GOG, and D2D sales.
