Hello,
I am going to install a chip in my 360 to run backups, but I got zero idea on the subject.
Is there anything I should be aware of?
Any kind of advice?
I know this might sound weird but my question is:
Will I be able to buy stuff off XBL after the mod?
I am not looking to play online(there are too many great single player games) but I guess I want to buy some xbox originals.
modding 360
Re: modding 360
I found the mod to be quite difficult to install, and had to unsolder and re-solder some of the wires a few times before it would work. You can still go on xbox live and buy stuff - the mod I installed will disconnect the networking features when running coppied games, and remains dormant otherwise.

Re: modding 360
I flashed my drive, and recently got banned. Kingdomhd84's mod sounds like a good option, though. I never really used online play, but I will really miss XBLA and Indie games. I don't mean to threadjack, but I heard that there is a modchip that lets you manually install XBLA games via the disc drive. Is this true?
Re: modding 360
I would suggest against modding your 360. I've recently had three friends banned from XBL for soft modding theirs, and it cost them all a lot of money to replace their systems. I guess if you don't really care about XBL then it doesn't matter, but it is something to consider.

i dont want XBL to play
I want it to buy games, the originals.
I wonder if you get banned from all of XBL or just won't be able to play online.
Anapan mod seems great, how did you do it

No, you can't go online at all. At least that's what everyone selling modded 360s around here say. If you go, you might get away with it a few times, but will eventually get banned.
Re: modding 360
You get banned from all of XBL. It won't let any gamertags connect on the banned console.
Re: modding 360
Can't you add some switches? if you want to play online you shut down the console, Flip all the switches play, want to play a backup? Flip all switches, boot the backup.
Really kind of easy

Re: modding 360
I used the Team Underdog NME-360 - all the backups need to be patched before use which is kind of a pain, but it seems to work flawlessly. I've never actually played multiplayer games online, but everything else functions well.

Doesn't work that way sadly.
Microsoft has figured out how to detect if the console is modified and once it is detected they flag the console. Once your flagged that's pretty much it...connect to live and your instantly banned. In addition to begin banned from live you also lose the ability to install games to the HDD and it corrupts your gamertag/saves.
Now there is supposed to be a new version of the modified firmware coming out soon that Microsoft should not be able to detect but nothing has been released to the public yet. But that's not going to help all the people that already got their console banned...once it is banned it is banned forever.
BTW this isn't the first time this has happened and it probably won't be the last.
If you want to run backups on a 360 I'd recommend buying two of them. Use one for online play/running retail games and the other for running backups and _maybe_ homebrew if you get lucky enough to find one with an older firmware that allows you to run homebrew.
Edit: To the OP;
There is no "modchip" for the Xbox 360. To run backups on the 360 you have to flash a modified version of the DVD firmware to the DVD drive.
