Whats a good RPG for the Wii?

Post by classicgamer5 »

I just got a Wii (skipped Saturn stuff :( ) and was looking for a good RPG. I don't like turn-based RPGs so is there any action RPGs thats good for the Wii? Any game that has RPG elements thats good? If its really good, I might try a turn based one, I mean, it has to be really good for me to try a turn based one.

It's okay. Getting a new system is always better than new games, in my opinion. Anyway, as for good RPGs, I believe Phantom Brave had an updated release on the Wii. Also, I actually enjoyed Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. It's certainly a departure from the first game, but hey, it's a Tales game; one of the foremost ARPG [Action RPG] series in gaming. There's also a ton of RPGs on Virtual Console, including the original Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star. Monster Hunter Tri is coming out in March, if you're into Mumorpergers [Parody term for single-player RPGs that play more like MMORPGs]. Also, Muramasa is generally considered a Platformer/Rpg, and it's a great game. Congratulations on getting a Wii! [P.S. Be sure to get it hacked, too, soo you can use emulators.]

Fire Emblem? It's the only RPG I cared for on the Wii. There's also Phantom Brave - never played it on the Wii, but I loved it on the PS2.

I knew about Tales of Symphonia 2, but I stayed the hell away from it. I found ToS1 dreadfully boring, and from what I hear, there are plenty of die-hard ToS fans who hated ToS2. So... proceed with caution.

I'm going to throw a vote in for Baroque. I will warn you from the get-go, it's a roguelike and its story is told in a very obtuse manner. Ever seen Memento? It's something like that. The combat isn't as exciting as ToS2, though. Still, the way you maneuver yourself around and the way you use items is very roguelike in its execution, even though the whole thing is real time.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already had a Wii when it was first released and had crap games so I sold it for my ps3. And yes, I'm going to hack it :D On SNES emulators, can you use the classic controller?

Congrats on getting a Wii again!! I would recommend classic RPG's on Virtual Console like Phantasy Star and original Final Fantasy. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World was pretty good I liked first game better but still pretty solid for sequel. Phantom Brave is pretty good too. You should definitely hack it to use emulators. 8)
