Considering buying an arcade, but I know nothing...
Re: Considering buying an arcade, but I know nothing...
I just wanted to add, did anyone else think 7k was going to be buying an actual arcade, and not just an arcade machine, when they first clicked on the topic?

Hmm. $500 is too much for that machine. The CP, while original, is in poor/fair shape. The monitor quality seems fine from those pics but that bezel is buck nasty and it appears that's not an original size monitor.
Honestly, wait on this one and go with securing the vamp. savior board you really want. You can find a NICE dynamo for much less and then go that route.

I'm not an expert but I think you can find a generic cab and the board for much less. I would pick a Dynamo and the board separatedly.
Well, at least you have guys with arcade games around. I live in Spain and I haven't seen any old arcade cab in my whole life. Given how things are around here I'm sure most were destroyed instead of sold. Man, I would kill for a Robotron cabinet.

Hmm. Seeing the condition, I would pay $300-400 max. Ive seen much better shaped CPS2 cabs go for less, and like the others said the board is not that rare. That said, if it is worth that much to you, go for it.

Oh, trust me - I would love to have an actual arcade (as in, an establishment with a ton of arcade machines - not just the one). It's just that, much like my dream of being an artist, it would leave me penniless and starving.
Still, it's something I would like to do. My current dream is to open up an arcade/used games place, specializing in retro games. I'd call it "Forgotten Worlds". Maybe have a cut-out of Sylphie the Shopkeeper at the checkout counter.
By the way, does anyone know how running an arcade would work? Wouldn't you have to pay licensing fees to publishers? Would Capcom get a large share of however much money went into their machines, for example?

Ive never heard of a share plan with a company, but it might happen. Your typical arcade is ran by a group purchasing the cabinets from the creators - new most run in 2k+. But you must pay a license fee to the local government for operation. In my area it is per machine and yearly.
Re: Considering buying an arcade, but I know nothing...
Well, on the way to deposit my Christmas money at the bank, I passed by a place for what had to be the 20th time, but was the first time I've ever really noticed it - or more importantly, noticed what was inside: Arcade Cabinets.
After depositing my money, I decided to take a look. Despite how decrepit it looked, it turned out it was still open. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a place that simply supplied arcades to business - they didn't sell any. Even so, they have decided to help me look for a cheap Dynamo unit. Looks like I could be on my way...
Also, I was just wondering: any idea where I could find a guide on building an arcade cabinet? Everytime I look for one, it just turns out to be instructions for building a MAME cab, which I'd imagine would be similar in construction yet different in key areas.
