Never seen one like this before.

Picked this up at the flea market today for $5. I talked the guy down from $10, because it has a nasty stain on the ribbon.

Anyone ever see one of these before? I know I saw someone selling custom made ones here before, and I was tempted to pick one up then. This one looks like it was made by a company, and it looks a bit older as well. Anyway, I figured it was cool enough to post pictures of.

I've seen that T-89 one on pages with collections of adapters and bootlegs. I'd say $5 is definitely worth it, especially if you didn't already have an adapter for Famicom carts. I think its amusing that most of those use ribbons, I used a wire loop when I made mine.

This is going to sound dumb, but I assume the ribbon is to hold the Famicom cartridge in place?

The ribbon is so you can pull it back out of your NES. Famicom carts are very small. With one plugged into the adapter and slid into the deep dark cavern of a toaster NES, you'd have a hard time grabbing and pulling it out. So you let the ribbon trail out the door so it looks like your NES is sticking its tongue out and you can pull everything out when you're done.

Ah here's the page I was looking for. The T89 is on there, along with many others. The bulleted items are links to pages with pictures. I'm not so sure I like their redesign.

Ah, nice link! Thanks for posting that, it was pretty cool to read about the other types. Looks like I have the best converter, according to the guy who wrote that. :)

Since I have this now, can anyone recommend any good Famicom only games that are English speaking friendly? I'm thinking Doki Doki Panic if I can find it.

These are all shmups, but of course that makes them import friendly.

Crisis Force

Gradius II

Over Horizon. If you have a clone, picking up the PAL version will be much cheaper. It works great in my Generation NEX and I'm pretty sure it worked in my Family Boy as well with the 72>60 convertor.

Cosmic Epsilon is a great Space Harrier clone too.

And hey look most of these are here too.
