Where all the Blu-Ray anime at?

One thing that gets me about domestic DVD releases (and this applies to foreign movies as well, not just anime) is that the technology they use for the subtitles is ugly. Many times it can be unreadable and in some cases it is placed on a bad section of the screen. I have the Widescreen Director's Cut of Das Boot but I can't zoom in on my widescreen TV because the subtitles are partially on the picture and partially in the letterboxing. Fansub groups, on the other hand, seem to strive to chose appropriate typefaces and colors for good visibilty and sometimes to differentiate characters when it's not always clear. Sometimes they don't do a good job, but it's better than the standard yellow text with black border that I see so often from the "professional" world.

Also, fansubs often don't take into account some will try to watch them on a TV, with some of the subs being downright unreadable.

I only watch raw anime so I haven't experienced that problem but maybe it's because of the TV itself (like if it's a CRT that has plastic covering the sides of the screen) or maybe your PS3 video display settings aren't perfect.

Well, it also happened when I watched anime on my TV while it was connected to my computer through S-Video, so it's not just my PS3.

Well, I have to question the whole "Japan crams more stuff on a disc than America does" deal. I've seen DVD releases that contain no more than two episodes as AmishSamurai said, and that seems to be the norm. Even worse, the norm also seems to be to charge out the f'en ass for these two episodes - somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-70.

You misunderstood; I said they cram more content per disc over here. They also interlace the content most of the time.

In Japan they'll release a DVD with a handful of episodes but in return you get better quality video. The video is progressive on just about every release (no interlacing artifacts), less video per disc means each episode has a higher video bitrate, less audio tracks means more bitrate can be put towards the video/audio. So if you _really_ care about quality you'll pay extra for these DVDs/Blu-rays.

The market over there is different also. Where your used to getting 6+ episodes per disc with two or more translations the Japanese are accustomed to a few episodes per disc. They may pay more but in return they get the very best quality and a much broader selection.

As for as the Japanese importing anime from America... Well I don't think it is all that common to be honest with you. I'm sure their are people over there that do it but most of them buy locally I assure you.

You can use Matroska tools to extract the subtitles and re-format them to your preference.

I wish Cowboy Bebop and Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal would be released on Blu-Ray
