Re: Laserdisk anyone?
My science teacher uses a Laserdisc player for some videos in class. I didn't even know what it was until I asked.
Re: Laserdisk anyone?
I never had a Laserdisc player, and never even seen or knew about them until I read about how anime fansubbers used to master VHS fansubs from Japanese laserdiscs. I'm actually interested (maybe) in getting a player and LDs of some anime or movies that never came out on DVD.
Truthfully, if I ever got a VHS of something old I liked that didn't have a DVD version, I'd actually be terrified of playing it because it would wear out the tape!
So if I could find an LD of it, that'd be great because it would never wear out! (Although I'd have to watch out for laser rot...
)

I think a lot of people just "collect" digital versions though. I have about ten VHS, not much of a collection. I used to have more but got rid of most of them when I move last time. I have never owned any laser-disc stuff but I used to have a RCA CED player when I was a kid. I am always tempted to collect for that.
This was the story with Salo: 120 Days in Sodom untill it got a re-release. On the other end my VHS of Night of the Comet had value untill it finally got a DVD release. Same story with Night of the Creeps I believe.

Damn, that had some value at one point? There's a minty copy of that at my parent's place. My mom picked that up for a few bucks somewhere probably well before it gained value. I always figured if I got around to creating some lousy industrial music I needed to use the sample "I'm not crazy, I just don't give a fuck" somewhere in there. I can't remember a lot of the movie, but that stuck in my head as a terrible/awesome line.Octopod wrote:On the other end my VHS of Night of the Comet had value untill it finally got a DVD release.

Ah man, it is as terrible as I remember. I'm pretty sure the rest is as terrible as I think it was too. Why was the VHS worth anything?Octopod wrote:

Cause that movie is badass and it was not available on DVD. Some people like "bad" movies. If I remember correctly the VHS was worth about $70 at one time but now of course it is worth a couple bucks at most.

I love laserdisc. At one point I had 3 different players including a combo DVD/LD player. I got rid of that but I still have one of the better LD players released in North America the Pioneer CLD-D704. The more I get into LD the more I like it.

Even for bad movies, just doesn't seem like a cult classic winner to me. Ah well. If someone else like it that much, so be it. Not like I don't have things I like that others don't. I looked on a site and I imagine the original print run was valuable and the reprint was worthless. I bet the one at my parents is a reprint.Octopod wrote:Cause that movie is badass and it was not available on DVD. Some people like "bad" movies.
