I just saw this thread and would love to hear feedback about the VGPC guide and were the prices are off. We base the prices off of completed ebay sales and listings on Amazon and Half and it is updated every day.

Is it the lack of the condition as a variable that throws things off?
Using listing prices instead of sales prices as one of the pricing variables?
Or something else?

the online rarity guide is good and updated a fair bit i think. gives a rough price based on rarity mostly.
Digitpress's rarity guide is great, but their prices haven't been updated in a long time.

I hardly think a racketboy price guide is necessary. All of the resources are already available at VGPC. In addition to the figures for VGPC being updated daily, on the page for each game you can easily view the price it is selling for at Amazon.com, Half.com, and on newer releases you can compare it to the Gamestop price.

In the event you think a price is questionable, just click the amazon.com link or the half.com link and confirm whatever its going price is. Otherwise, click the eBay link that is on the vgpc page, then select completed listings. It is very simple to get prices for items, especially if you are using VGPC as a hub.

And for more rare items, a racketboy price guide isn't going to help. If an item comes up once every couple months, even if it sold for $400 last time, it may sell for more the next time or less and the guide wouldn't be very helpful or accurate.

Can you actually see what it's going for on Amazon? I don't think you can look at completed listings, and I don't think that looking at asking prices on amazon is a good price gauge.

Sure it is. Maybe not if its the only copy listed, but for something of that "rarity" you'd most likely want pictures before dropping big cash. But whenever there are multiple copies the newest person will usually list and undercut the current lowest. I've gotten some great CIB games for lower than cart-only / disc-only prices.

Plus, if you're using vgpc you'll see the other prices in comparison to the amazon price to confirm its accuracy. Sometimes amazon.com prices are "high" but I know thats where I go to sell my Pokemon games and things like FF7. I know I can sell them cart-only or disc-only and still command prices at or above eBays levels.

From someone that has sold across many mediums, I will say that amazon is generally a pretty good reflection of the market price of a game (ie the price that people are willing to pay).
