Laserdisk anyone?

I just wanted to ask if anybody here likes the lasterdisk format...Im only 16 but i am an avid fan of the format and i adore my laserdisk player....

I'm into old stuff like that too. Sadly whenever I get an TV or VCR or something it ends up not working right.

Anyway, I'm not too into Laser Disc myself, but a good friend of mine is obsessed. He's got dozens, including almost every Arnold Schwarzenegger film ever.
Just you wait, in a few years, I think VHS tapes and Laser Discs are going to make the same retro-collector comeback that vinyl records and NES games did.

Aren't there video games that were produced on laser disc as well? I'm pretty sure I read Dragon's Lair was, but I'm too lazy to verify.

Dragon's Lair and Space Ace both were laser disc based games in the arcade.

I can see laser discs making a retro comeback since they don't degrade with use. Tape based media were popular because they were cheap and easy to record, but their durability limits their collectability. Vinyl does degrade with use, but it has special qualities about it and is an exception, not the rule.

When I was in grade school (I'm 23 btw) we had a few laserdisc players that teachers would roll in to the class room every now and again and show us educational programming on. I remember them begin fairly interactive as they worked similar to a modern interactive DVD.

The size of the discs is just huge though...and even for these educational programs having to change sides happened all too often.

I do not collect the format but a friend of mine is an avid collector of anime released on LD. There is a lot of old school anime that was released on this format side by side with the VHS releases. A lot of that anime never saw release on DVD or Blu-ray, so people that care about quality (fansub groups and collectors) are paying top dollar for these rare anime LDs.

I'm also a young fan(20 years old) of Laser Disc. It's a fantastic technology to collect and view.

Props for being a young person who enjoys old tech.

I got a nice collection of 73 LDs back home. Mostly special editions. Hellraiser with screenplay and Barker's autograph. Also lots of Japanese movies since there is a shop which sold them very cheap (Special Edition of Swallowtail Butterfly for $8).
The problem is that no more laser disk players are made. I think Pioneer was the last maker and they stopped 3 years or so ago.
