I do not envy that guy. I can't imagine going through that in public!Breetai wrote:Ouch!
A guy I went to high school with passed a kidney stone during PE class in the shower. It was... quite a scene to be sure. It was funny at first (it was the class clown and we all though he was just joking around), but then everyone just felt bad for him.
I have a kidney stone...
Re: I have a kidney stone...
I thought I may have passed it this morning, but it still hurts really bad. Maybe it just did a lot of damage on the way out...

Man, that really sucks. I hope you get through it without too much discomfort.
People are mentioning drugs and surgery. Do they not do the sound thing to pulverize it with sound anymore? I remember watching an old PBS show a lot as a kid where they'd talk about diseases and treatment procedures. I specifically remember one show where they used sound to break one up so it could be passed as sand sized particles and there was no surgery.

Re: I have a kidney stone...
I'm waiting on an X-ray result to see if I already passed it. If it's still there, then they are going to do an ultrasound, which I assume will help break it up.
Maybe someone who has been through this before knows for sure what the ultrasound is for, cause I could be wrong. They didn't really tell me what it was going to do.

Ultrasound is sonar that will let them 'see' the stone. Think of the gray staticy images of babies that parents to be get when they want to find out the sex of their baby before its born.

Doh! That was so obvious!
You'll have to forgive my stupidity, I'm all doped up on pain meds right now.

Well I already ordered a Sega CD, the two Dragon Age novels, and District 9 on Blu-ray today while under the influence of said pain meds, so I figured the addition of Torchlight for $10 should probably be enough for the day.Hobie-wan wrote:And you escaped the Steam sale with only 1 item? Re: I have a kidney stone...
Yikes. I had one (my first) about a year ago. Luckily it passed within 48 hours. I spent an agonizing evening in the ER before they doped me up with morphine, though. What was really weird for me was that my pain started in, and mainly stayed in, my testicles. LAME. Essentially it triggered the pain down there just because "everything is connected" etc.
The good news it is will pass, the bad news is you have a 50/50 chance of developing more in the coming years. I was told that tea and beer are the two major drinks that can lead to stones. You just need to drink more fluids in general, water is best.
