Double Dash had a poor battle mode. The stages were all too small for the amount of players they allowed, sans Tilt-a-kart. That said Wii has an ok battle mode (once you get past the team only part)...Atleast DS got it right.

I know of no one that enjoyed using the steering wheel for Mario Kart
it sucks and your wrist will start to hurt after some time, not to mention I believe you have to buy the extra plastic wheel?

The game ships with one wheel. Additionally, you don't need the wheel to play (it's just a shell that makes it a bit easier to hold.

My old boss plays exclusively with the wheel, as he finds it comfortable as a driving analog. I agree fully that you get much tighter control with the GC controller or Wiimote + chuck, but that doesn't mean that the game doesn't fully support and make use of the motion controls.

Since I never owned a Gamecube, if you told me I could buy one with improved graphics (even a slight improvement, since graphics aren't a big deal to me and I couldn't care less about HD), standard wireless controllers with motion control, built in net access, the ability to download old games and play them legally, and it plays Gamecube games and the newer type? I'm all over that.

Not everything is about HD and graphics. Hell, I don't even play online that much since half the people you find online are douches and the other half practice so much they totally dominate and ruin the fun.

The Wii may not be for everyone, but I'd hardly call it a failure because it lacks eyesplitting graphics and your preferred type of online interaction.
Comics, RPG's, miniatures, and now retrogaming? I guess its time to learn to go without eating...

I perfer the wheel. I play to have FUN. Sometimes I intentionally lose to let other people I play against have FUN too.

I think winning is more fun than losing but to each their own.

I'd actually prefer using the wheel if it felt like I was using a wheel. Instead, if feels more like I'm playing with a Frisbee.

Paying $15 for a hunk of plastic that doesn't even do what it is supposed to is a waste to me. On the other hand, paying ten times that much for an actual arcade-style steering wheel that does do what it is supposed to do isn't a waste. At least you get what you paid for.

As for winning and losing, if a game is only fun when you win, the game is flawed. Otherwise, you'll be having fun with a game regardless of the outcome.

After all, the "Victory Screen" represents such a small amount of playtime - you'd pretty much only be enjoying the game about 5% of the time you're playing it, and that's assuming you actually won every game.

I'd say, objectively, the Wii is not a failure. There are many good or great games available that you can't get elsewhere. I was just playing NSMB and Excitebike World Rally today. However, I've always been a huge Nintendo fanboy, even through the Gamecube era as an adult. Yet I find my fan dedication to Nintendo dying, not because of growing out of it, but because Nintendo is not living up to expectations. Gamecube and N64 were both putting out more quality games at a faster rate. NES and SNES too. Now, Wii wouldn't have been such a disappointment so far if Nintendo wasn't raking in huge profits. Where is the fan repayment? Where's a console Kirby game, or a Star Fox, or an F-Zero with online. Where's a new DK adventure game? Still no Wii Zelda. When Nintendo began to blow away the competition this gen, I expected more, I expected better. At the very least, put out the same amount of great titles Gamecube did. I feel like they're just trying to spend as little as possible now to make greater and greater profits.

This is obviously a very personal type of idea - I mean, it sucks that you bought and don't like the Wii and the games available for it, I guess. It actually has my three favorite games of this current "generation" - NSMB, Mario Galaxy, and Sin and Punishment 2.
