VGA all the way!

if you can find a decent CRT monitor or LCD monitor go with VGA. There is a bigg difference in quality between the two! Seeing games using a VGA box is incredible. Even lower sprite games for the DC I would prefer a sharper image.

Yes, you'd need all of those things.

If you're looking for a VGA --> HDMI converter, I found this some pages back: http://www.monoprice.com/products/produ ... 1&format=2

Someone here has verified it to work.

Off the top of my head, some great games like L.O.L. (Lack of Love), Marvel V.S. Capcom, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Garou Mark of the Wolves are not suited for VGA. I couldn't get L.O.L. to load in VGA and the other games looked blocky and badly pixelated. So for those you're better off with S-Video.

If you've played all the classics like Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio before with just the standard cables, playing them in VGA will make a huge difference. They were made with VGA in mind. I mean, of course Shenmue took my breath away on a 10 years ago on a regular boob tube but playing it in VGA made so much detail come out.

just ordered the VGA from here. but one of the tv I'll be using has no VGA input the other has analogue RGB and another port labeled RS-323C IOIO nothing I can see labeled VGA
both have s-video.

I've been googling for screen shot comparisons between s-video and VGA but haven't seen anything yet. anyone have linkage for pics ?

all of my games are NTSC U.S. releases and my DC is un modded. I get the feeling if I get the box from monoprice I'll still end up using s-video if the game I play dosn't support VGA. fine I guess but I'm hoping to eliminate swapping cords w/ other stuff. my Saturn is using the s-video port now. anyone know if the monoprice box will help the Saturn signal somehow ?

to do the VGA box + monoprice box thing I need...
VGA box
Monoprice box
short VGA cable
short RCA to stereo mini or 2 short RCA connectors
HDMI cable

and this setup is the best I can do without any VGA input on my lcd tv. yes ?
then if a game won't work I swap to s-video ?
Ocelot, did it again...sorry Boss !

vga box rocks, but i prefer a good old (cheap) crt instead of a lcd (in my case). Due the native issue with lcd screens the crt is much sharper in 640p. Some shots of my setup:

yeah, in a perfect world I'd have a CRT for old systems but I have no space in my apt. for another display. and all my CRT's have died.

If I buy a VGA to HDMI converter, does the video quality decrease? This might be a stupid question but I think I heard that the more converters you use the more the quality decreases. Let me know, thanks!

if you need to use one, I think the end quality is better than if you don't. meaning, if you don't have a VGA connection on your tv and can't use the VGA box without it, then your stuck with composite or s-vid. which I think is not as good as the VGA+VGA/HDMI combo.

but then I haven't seen side to side comparison shots of it either.

I'm thinking about getting the VGA output from my Dreamcast but I have a couple of questions,

First, I only have LCD monitors these days. I heard that VGA looks better on CRT. In this case, should I still bother?

Second, what's the difference between the VGA Cable and the VGA Box, that are both on sale in the Racketboy store? Is it just the simple matter that the VGA Box can do everything, while the cable only does VGA?

Finally, say I hook up the VGA cable to my PC monitor, how does the sound output work?

thanks in advance
