Sega Saturn Mod Chip problem (again)

Post by Fiercegaming »

Well I have recieved Racketboy's new mod chip, and have tried it on the new 32 pin Sega Saturn I recieved from Ebay. So far, it's the same story, it will play audio tracks on burned and original games. I have tried the 14th pin method as well, but same story. Do I have to do the AB Bridge on both sides of the chip, when doing the A+B method??

what am I doing wrong? (I have modded two Xbox's without out any probs, is this like a hit or miss?)

pictures are below:

It looks like a few of us are having the exact same problem.
I'm sure the reasons are different, though.

Try doing this:
1) Install the chip.
2) Turn the Saturn on without a disc and let it go to the menu/CD player.
3) Put it an original disc (not a backup).
4) See if it lets you play the game, or if it only plays the audio tracks.

Let us know what happens!

I tried sending Racketboy a PM about my problem, but I don't know if he got it yet.

All I can say is that I'm having the same problem as you. I tried to get a friend, who works with electronics, to help me install it, but he couldn't get it to work either.

Isn't this your third chip?

And refresh my memory... this Saturn plays originals without the chip in it?
And no, you only solder the one side of the chip for the A+B
Can you take a picture of that part of the chip for me?

Didn't I reply to you a few days ago?
If not, send it to me again...

This is my second chip from you, this will be the third, if I send it back to ya. I can send ya a picture, but A+B are directly connected with solder. I will see if I can get ya a picture tomorrow, I kinda already packaged it up to send back to ya. Yes, it will play original games without the chip in it.

OK -- I must have got you confused with somebody else. Yeah, go ahead and send it back.
I was thinking if it was your third, chances were it wasn't the chip :)

Yeah, I was talking to someone else who mods saturns, and he said sometimes some systems just don't work for some freak reason. I guess 2 of my 32 pin saturns don't work :). I will try the third chip, and if that doesn't work, I guess it is my system :(

i don't mean to sound like a bother, but be sure to check the ribbon that connects the chip to the board. that came out when I was installing mine and I didn't even notice...then again, ifn its playing regular games, thats not the case... :?

Thanks thegore, I did make sure it was snuggly connected. It plays originals without the chip only, when the chip is in, it plays originals, and backups as audio CDs, on both of my 32 pin saturns...either I am really unlucky and both saturns don't work with this chip, or it is the chip. I dunno, we will see what happeneds when I get the third chip.
